SKS Vs CZ 858

Not enough information to assess which is "better". "Better" for what?
As far as the cleaning comments... I don't know what's so hard about cleaning an SKS due to the gas tube, you just flip a lever and off it comes. Never cleaned an 858, so maybe someone could enlighten me as to how it's so much easier?
It'd also be cool to see an apples to apples weight comparison of the 858 to the SKS.

Weapon weight without magazine: 6.59 lbs
Weight of an empty magazine: 0.42 lbs
WTF... also that is a 16" barreled version.
My SKS is 8.0 lbs (weighed on a scale with 0.2 lb resolution, it was flashing between 7.8 and 8.0) That is with no bayo, cleaning rod/kit, and with the factory sling. Factory solid birch stock.
Any 858 owners with reasonably accurate/precise scales out there?

Geez since when did straight stocked, non-removable magazine firearm designed with ww2 ergonomics and 0 modularity short of tapco butchery become even remotely comparable to a "modern" laid out carbine.
ergonomically hands down the 858 wins, lighter, more manouverable, more ergonomic, more accurate, removable magazines, much better aftermarket support.
THe only area that the sks wins is in price, but at the price point of the vz/csa rifles, they are hands down the best bang for your buck in a black rifle. In 556 or 762x39 you will not find a better built gun sub $1000.

FWIW--I have both. I love them both equally, yet differently. The 858 is a bit more badass, with lots of mod choices. The SKS is more like something you would find in a museum that goes BANG. Both are wicked fun, and as a machinist and a historian I'm glad I have both......
WHAT?? How f'dd is your CZ that it doesnt shot aswell as your sks??
My CZ's shot ####ing awesome and ARE worth the money over an SKS. The sks is great if you want a cheap shooter but the CZ is relativley cheap and a ton of fun shooting, handling, modding (as there are ALOT of mods out there for them).
I would say get the CZ but it is your cash and your decision.
Love em both and would never sell either one of em.

cz858 if you can spare the cash , you said you already have an sks
It was really only because it would blow hot powder in my eye through the rear reciever cover gap, Im sure it was probably just the crap one that I owned at the time, I have heard of many many others that have had good luck with then, I prpbably just got stuck with a lemon, but I would still take a CZ any day.

Ya, just a negative sear that causes it to slam fire. I'd rather have my gun not go off gremlin, then have 5 rounds go off in a burst gremlin. I am not talking out my @ss either, it happened to me, and the firing pin was CLEAN!
I think you had better read up on what causes "Slam Fire" it's not negative sear engagement. If your rifle is clean, then there is a failure in the mechanics but it's not negative sear engagement. As far as which rifle is better, flip a coin, they both can do the same job. I think most people buy the cz/vz because it is the closest thing to a AK they can purchase in Canada. Once the AK novelty wears off they have a rifle that cost 2/3 more than a SKS.
