SKS Vs. Cz858?

So I've decided it's either an SKS 59/66 or CZ-858, I've only fired the SKS though so I thought I thought I'd aput the question to you guys.

My expectations are:
-Utmost ruggedness/longevity
-Utmost reliaility
-Inherent accuracy
-Ease of maintenance/cleaning

Based on this criterion which one gets your vote? Also how does the detachable CZ magazine feed? As reliably as the internal SKS one?
 
I would have to say they are about the same on all except accuracy.I find the 858 is a bit more accurate than the Sks.
 
Cz is more ergonomic, lighter and accessories are of much higher fit and quality should you want to upgrade.

Accuracy is slightly better with CZ imo, but a good SKS will shoot about the same.

I think a good working CZ is just about as reliable, never had any problems with an SKS or CZ ever...

CZ takes down just as fast if not faster than the sks, both are ridiculously simple to dissamble.

The number 1 thing i think is superior for teh CZ over the SKS is the trigger. The 2 stage trigger on the CZ is leaps leaps and bounds above the abhorrently long trigger pull on the SKS. That and the lightness and ease of handling.
 
I really wanted a Vz.58 when they first came out, but then I thought about it and decided to save the money and stick with my SKS. If we were allowed normal capacity mags I would be all over the '58, but for 5 round guns and shooting holes in paper I think the SKS is just as good.
 
I prefer the CZ, having owned both in the past (sold the SKS). Trigger MUCH better on the CZ, as is accuracy (at least in my hands). Of course, I got a smokin' deal on my restricted CZ from Milarm ($375) while all the current ones seem to be over $600...
 
i have both and love both of them .... but what i like best about the CZ858 is its non-rest and its cousin AK47 is prohib .
 
I think it would come down to individual rifles, if I was 100% convinced I'd never get the striker gremlin, then the CZ is a no brainer, throw in the wild card of the gremlin and a Good SKS (Yugo or Russian or Early Factory 26) gets much closer. Also for long term durability, it's easier to find and maintain a stock of SKS parts.

i realized i didnt really answer the questions properly so here goes.

1. ruggedness/longevity= SKS built tuff, heavy
2. reliablity= SKS no gremlin
3. accuracy= CZ, i will give the edge to CZ altho SKS yugo, russian and early 26 do come close.
4. maintenace= CZ
5. mag feed= SKS less problem with commercial ammo

also SKS is cheaper than a CZ so base on these conditions i have to change my answer to SKS

I don't buy old guns made in a country which couldn't win a war in the history, such as Czek, France, or Italy.

Yes, I couldnt put my finger on it before, but there it is! The cz stocks suc big time. Even laminated would be OK, but for that kinda dough, I want better zombie whackin' material.
The shape, or lack there of, of the stocks is just terrible and uninspired commie crap. Too bad, cause I like the gun.

I have a yugo, A chinese and VZ58L. I could chop down a friggin tree with my yugo's butt stock, but like the lightness of the VZ. I'm voteing stricktly on coolness factor and choosing the VZ as my fav. Do an Armour coat paint job on the stocks and they look slick . Or you can buy any # of accessories to make it nicer.
 
My vote goes for SKS with no hesitation.

Consider the following. USSR, unlike Chehoslovakia, had an option and did test the weapon in many different climatic zones - from the far North to the sands of middle Asia. USSR, unlike Chehoslovakia, had an option and did test SKS in the battles of WWII (and later China was supplying Vietnam, which was another big test for SKS). While VZ is a fine rifle, it did not see such an action as SKS did.

Another thing to consider is part availability - China making SKS and parts is a huge plus, USA making SKS parts is a plus. So, to me, it is an easy choice.
 
For strait shooting - cz 858. I found the sks to be uncomfortable and awkward to shoot. Most things just didn't jive with me. The cz on the other hand felt perfect. To me it's built for natural movement and use. Plus, it looks great! I'd consider an sks as a beater that I wouldn't feel bad about knocking the crud out of, but since I already have the cz, I don't really need it. I can't comment on the sks for cleaning, but the cz is easy as pie.

that was my first impression when i first laid eyes on it and also when i first handled it but it actually isnt fragile , true...it aint built like a tank like a SKS.

i know alot of people dont like the pressed wood but i dont mind it , there are options, like folding stock (my fav) and real wood replacements.

i bot a CZ cos i want a cool looking rifle :ar15:, i first thought of a SKS-D but i couldnt get myself to part with $400 for a modified SKS and when a CZ858 is couple hundred more and it comes with standard 4X30rdmags, leather pouch, bayo and cleaning kit.

I'm going to pick up some corrosive ammo to hold onto and will likley only put clean stuff through it until I really need to use the dirty stuff.

ANyway, now that the decision has been made, who wants to sell me a rifle and a few magazines? ;)
