There was a Mosin-Nagant and a PPSH with pistol grip in COD Black Ops...

They don't have a model and animations for traditional stock rifles in those 'modern warfare' games so they make a pistol grip for every gun.

Its supposed to take the same role as the M39 as a "DMR". I guess since DICE couldn't think of another semi auto battle rifle, they just said, "Hey, let's see how much Crapco we can stick on an SKS until someone throws up?" and here we are.
