SKS with very short serial #

Does anyone know why an SKS would have a 4 digit serial #?

Most others I've seen have longer ones.
This one has a black bayonet.

Mine is 4 numbers and Russian if you don't count the B and the Russian numeral after it

I have seen two-digit serials. It seems the Russians weren't into putting zeroes between the Cyrillic character and the numerals, so AП13 would in fact be AП0013 (or AP0013 in English).

1954 is the year his was made, not the serial number

I have a two digit serial, plus the two letters

Most have four digits, I also have one with only two digits.

Thank you. The one I saw had two letters and two numbers and I just wanted to see whether someone had any further insight. I also read something about the number stamped on the front sight and that a lower one means greater accuracy. Is there any truth to that?

One of those little inconsistencies. Some sources say it is an indication of bore state.

Long or short serial numbers don't have any relevance for Russian SKS rifles. Condition and year of manufacture matter, but they all make good shooters.

Yep, I had an "OP8"
There's a few with low serial numbers in the SKS registry (now closed), but its very rare. Why in the hell did I sell that '53 Izzy?
