SKS Wobble + Strange Sight Ladder

Hi CGN,

This SKS has been frustrating me recently.

It wobbles up and down so far the stock almost escapes the front ferrule on the receiver and the sight ladder does not slide far back enough to let me use the battle zero, it only goes as far back as the 1 setting.

In order to stop the wobble I wrapped the crossbolt with ballistol soaked heavy-duty paper towl and it is much better but apparently pushed to far the other way now. I have no idea what to do with the rear sight. Without the paper towl wrapped around the crossbolt having it flipped upside and down I can see the crossbolt move and not lock with the receiver.

As far back as it goes:

Does it seem out of shape? The mating with the ferrule seems to indicate a problem to me, not sure about the rear of the stock. When I compress the handguard and front of stock there is definitely movement.

Could it be that this is because I bent the latch slightly in the receiver that fits in to the trigger assembly to reassemble the rifle? Or that the spring in the rear of the stock is about half the length of others I've seen in other SKSs? In the beginning I had no wobble with this rifle.

Thanks for the advice!

Hey there, don't worry about your SKS being a bit loose and troublesome, many of them are. We will try to find some help for yours.

About the sight ladder: Pull the ladder straight up, 90 degrees to the barrel and have a look at the backside. Any burrs there?
Run the sight adjustment all the way to the 10 mark. Can you see any obstructions? Use a small file to smooth off anything that obstructs.

Many SKS fit badly in the stock and it gets brought to light by use and taking apart for cleaning. You are on the right track with shimming.
Try using parts, like springs, from your buddies SKS (or your very handy second SKS that you bought for parts). Looks like you have a nice
one with real blueing, keep working at it, it is worth it.

One more thing! Be sure to have the safety on (up against the stock) when taking the trigger group off or putting it on. Much easier that way!

Thanks its a 100% original SN with no grinding or anything. Stock also has the SN. I got it looking unissued.

That is why I can't understand why the wobble would be so great that it almost lifts out of the stock lol. Do I need to realign that latch from the receiver?
