P.S. I hope you still have some of the non-corrosive ammo left over from our deal... You don't want to feed your beautiful russian corrosive ammo
You can repair that scratch locally with a lintless pad wet with methyl alcohol.
This melts shellac and it will resolidify once the alcohol evaporates. Test on a hidden part of the rifle.
Use nitrile gloves, don't smoke and avoid too much breathing of the alcohol vapours, please: we still like to see your restoration jobs...
PP.
as long as the vodka was in the freezer for at least 3days so it has the ice on the out side of the bottle ..it will melt any finish but i would rather drink it ..it's gets soooooo smooooth you don't even know it's hurting you LOL.
That is exactly my point, if you want to restore Russian SKS with original materials, you should use Ethyl spirit (medical-grade one gives the best result).
Thanks folks for all comments. And here's the first pic of my SKS. After cleaning, the stock shows a really poor refurb shellac coat, so it may be more than just a small touch-up for this stock! Other than that, all is perfect so I'm quite happy.
The colour in the picture is indeed slightly different from what I can see here with my own eyes; it does seem a little bit more red. Not orange like my Mosins though.
