That pin is smaller at 1 side, you need a good punch,rest the handguard securely and a good blow of hammer, the pin should come out. I never have difficulties yet to remove thoses pins. The 2 pins must be for the handguard,use 1 and keep the other as a spare.

Thanks, I'm limited to tools at home, I'll have to take it to work tomorrow and do it there.

Be sure the front of mag hook correctly on the rifle and that the front of trigger group mesh correctly on the receiver. Some sks may have loose mag even when assembled correctly, my beat up russian have loose mag but function flawlessly.

I got all the cosmoline removed. Thanks for all the advice. Now I'm ready to put it back togeather. The gun is bone dry right now, I just need to know where to apply the gun oil. Are there certin areas that should be kept dry? Like the bore of the barrle, and the gas piston and piston tube, bolt, ect.
