SKS45 front sight stamp

Over the weekend I picked up a real nice 1954 tula locally... I would call it mint except for the 1 ding on the left side, probably from a bolt handle of another SKS..
My questions is... the front sight has a 1 stamped on it... and the salesman told me the rifles were graded 1 though 3... 1 being the best.. and 3 being the least... is there truth to this?

Nope,the number refer to the sight internal diameter,were the sight slip over the barrel.

Yup, it's barrel journal size. On some you'll see the number again on the barrel just before the bayonet mount,and at the front of the gas tube mount.

Thanks guys.... I didn't think they would go through the trouble of grading a military rifle... ha.. I guess if it helps you sell a rifle though...
