SKS's back on the shelves at CTire

See, something has gone terribly wrong with our society! If you did sny of that now, a swat team would roll up and take you out! We shouldn't be afraid or banned from doing those things,, however the public should not be afraid of it either and back then they weren't! I am not blaming anyone but would seriously like to know, what is different, and what caused it!

I was at the Edson AB Canadian Tire. First time I have seen SKS at CT, WOW were they rough. $199 each, BBQ paint, no #'s match, beat up stocks. Fortunately the staff was very knowledgeable and actually took time to look in the back for any better ones, but unfortunately the ones in the back were not much better. Great service but very rough product, not what I normally expect from CT. Kudos to the Edson staff, good job.

For $199.00 to my door ?

Seriously, and respectfully, who the f*** cares if Cambodian Tire carries SKS's? Buy one from one of the reputable vendors and you'll never go wrong, or be recorded in some stupid log book. Weimajack, Corwin Arms just to name a few. Tradex and Westrifle also have some select SKS's.

The stories of guns in a bin in the department store, got me thinking of the local discount store when i was a kid...Army and Navy....in New Westminister. Lee Enfields in a barrel as others have mentioned.

So a number of years ago a Army and Navy moved into a old Zeller's location here. Absolutely nothing firearms, ammunition, or hunting. I joked with the clerk that they need to change their name from Army and Navy to just Navy.

I was in the CT in Abbotsford a few months ago, awesome firearms and hunting displays. The pendulum is swinging back, maybe in time we can get the Army back in Army and Navy.

I was at our local CT on Monday, and they no longer sell the SKS (they did before the "recall"). I couldn't find any of the "firearms" guys, but a girl who was allowed to open the cabinets for ammo said that they decided it was too much trouble. She may or may not know what she is talking about.

If I was a conspiracy theorist, I would suggest that this SKS drama was cooked up to discourage sporting goods and CT stores from selling guns, starting with the incredibly deadly and dangerous SKS. Fortunately I am not a conspiracy theorist.

BTW, I too am old enough to remember the days where every hardware store sold guns - big metal trashcans stuffed with Lee Enfields, and all manner of shotguns and bolt rifles. Even our neighborhood drugstore sold 22 ammo.

In my neighborhood (S. edge of Edmonton), it wasn't unusual to see kids with .22s strapped to their bicycles, on their way to local farmer's fields to collect the gopher bounties that farmers used to pay. And in Grade 3, at least one kid brought his 22 in for show-and-tell, and it only caused jealousy from those of us who didn't have our own. It didn't raise any eyebrows, and all our teachers were women AND probably communists. It was all perfectly normal.

It is good that CT sells guns. I hope Lowes, Home Depot, Rona, Home Hardware etc. all follow suit. Normalize something again that was perfectly normal just 30 years ago.

But I am often accused of being a dreamer.

Yes, well most of us dream of those things, our CTC in the area put them back up as soon as they could, Clayton Park CTC said it was their best seller and the put it on for $169.99. They just have to get their ammo price down a bit!
Funny, I was just thinking, All these restrictions on legal gun toting citizens and gun violence hasn't changed, probably has gotten worse since 35-40 years ago! Common sense is not so common anymore!

They are back on the shelves here too, I asked for a certain year and ended up with 5 options with 1950 on them. One was blued and in really nice shape, all numbers matched except the mag. It was still import marked but finding a blued one amongst all the BBQ ones was cool. They are 199 here.

I bought an sks at canadian tire in Picton Ontario for $139.99

To this day thats the best deal I've ever seen on an sks that wasn't packaged with ammo.

Woodstock, ON has sks's back on the shelves for $199.

Also saw a Mini-14 on the shelf

Sks's back on shelves in Kitchener.
I looked at the one at the counter today. No date, only stamps were the typical ###XX that was it. The rear sight was unfinished steel color, ultra polished bolt carrier. The receiver was blued but the dust cover was BBQ paint. The wood and finish looked good, bayonet was plain steel. No cleaning kit in butt stock.
Price was $199.
Decent rifle but weird Heinz 57 mix of parts. The magazine was the only part with electric pencil marks.
The other thing I noticed was, there was no oil at all on this rifle, bone dry which tells me Canadian Tire is making sure these rifles are ultra cleaned just in case a buyer doesn't clean the gun before using, hence the reason for pulling them to begin with. The rifle should have a trace of oil, at least keep the rust at bay. Sheesh.

The more people buy them the better it is for semi auto acceptance.
Frankly I wish they would sell 4 to 5 million of them here in Canada.

Still ZERO in the gta ...ugh! Visited my gf the other day, didn't realize none if the CT's downtown Toronto didn't even sell ammo. What a waste of time lol.

Talked with my local CT sporting department and they say they have no intention of getting any more (sks). They also said that they are thinking of getting out of firearms all together... It cant be due to sales, as it turns over pretty quick, must be tied to some perception issues.

Too bad.
