SKS's being re-classified ?

The SKS is convertible. However, the conversion is outside the limits established by the Supreme Court of Canada. Doesn't mean that there aren't those who would like to see this rifle and others restricted or prohibited. It just means that ease of conversion isn't going to be the method as things stand at present.

IF and I mean IF the RCMP convince the government these 11 guns are "easy to convert to F/A" by whatever criteria they use, I sincerly doubt these will be classified as restricted... Easy to convert means prohibited.

Agree 100%.

For those with short memories, the SA and 858s went right from "Non-Restricted" all the way over to "Prohib" overnight for exactly this reason.

If the Queen's Cowboys decide to reclassify SKS' the agenda would be to confiscate them, not register them. They know that restricting them so as to register and keep track of them would serve no purpose anyway, since a large number of owners would likely register one for use and keep the other 19 in the crate - just like with the LGR.

All that being said; I too call BS on this instructor's "theory". I expect that if they were to "reclassify" the SKS that it would be along with everything else with a bang-switch that resets itself. Finally they could fulfill their destiny, bringing order to the galaxy and ruling it under one heavy boot.

Given the mighty uproar over the Swiss and 858 reclassification, I kind of hope they do reclassify the SKS, Mini-14, M1A, etc. all in one fell swoop.

It would be the absolute end of compliance with the firearms act, and it's downfall.

Indeed...

And if they somehow think that all the firearms in this country are in the "wrong hands" now - as in "not theirs" - just wait until they try something like this and create a black market the likes of which they haven't seen in their worst nightmares. Then try and get a handle on that while crime rates spike.

It shouldn't matter if it's easily converted. It's against the law to do so. You break the law you go to jail.

I also don't understand this "easily can be converted" clause. Its also easy to convert some (if not all) mags from pinned to 5 back to original 30 if someone decides to do that , contrary to the law. That doesn't make the pinned to 5 ones prohibited, does it?
Also easy to run someone over with a car...

I suspect the the RCMP will want to restrict the SKS first so people will register them ; then once the RCMP knows where they are , then they will prohibit them . When the CPC got rid of the LGR ; it set the RCMP anti gun agenda back many , many years....it is tough to seize a firearm if you do not know who owns , or possesses , them....

While i am not throwing the SKS under the bus, this would be the gift of all gifts to firearms owners. If they went incremental with a cheap firearm, with literally millions in the country, affecting hundreds of thousands of voters.>>>>>>>>

-How do they then claim that registration is not a prelude to confiscation. Not registering like people register cars.

-The backlash following the SA and CZ 858 would look like a picnic with a hot woman in comparison.

-Many fence sitting gunnies; not fudds, more apathetic, would be mobilized to defeat or even try recalling the government. The SKS seems to be one of the first firearms new Pal holders buy. So not only gunnies in general, but young gunnies; the "progressive" and much more pro pot demographic.

So since there is SFA we can do anyways, by all means give us a rallying point to eliminate the disease that is Liberal.

Yes, if the Lieberals stayed in power long enough, I believe there would be a good chance of this happening!!! Unless of course, we fight, hard and loud! The Lieberals want votes too we need to broker deals with promises of votes for the party that works with us!

You are underestimating the will of people to stay out of jail. They'll make a few example (just by laying charges, eventually "dropping" them later on once they squizzed the guy to look compassionate), scare the #### out of everybody, and then everybody will lower their pants.

nothing like inventing a new crime to take away Lawfully owned property...

Oh yea, everyone buy an SKS, someone said this a few times and I wasn't sure if it would make a difference, I think it would, I am buying another on Saturday! Get your friends to buy some too! Anyone in Halifax area, you get the least expensive ones around, go for it!

Canadians do not stand up to their government

I dunno... My optics on this a skewed out here on the prairies. The level of non compliance to the registry was stunning out here. To the point where fish and wildlife, and even the RCMP will ask to see your hunting license and tags, but not your PAL. LEO knew it was a lot easier to play Sgt. Schultz than to actually kick that hornet's nest.

The lack of compliance to the LGR would suggest not all Canadians bow gracefully.

This. And we're still dealing with the fallout from it. So many guns just "vanished" and started floating around because of the registry. It created more problems than it solved.

People are even less inclined (again, my optics are skewed by location) to play nice with registration etc. than they were during the time of C-68. So much ill will was created in High River, it hardened a lot of people's stance.

This is a very good distinction. In my observations many Canadians in general are either apathetic or too complacent to strongly voice or take action - until its too late, if at all. No one is rallying the masses and taking the PR risk ... hopefully our gun organizations can really make a difference here. I think most are tired with half assed attempts that amount to nothing.
In a way yes, but action vs inaction
