Damn and blast! Looked forward the hunt all year long. We were up there on the long weekend and things were looking really good. We saw a yearling and it's momma on the front lawn. Even on the weekend before the hunt there was fresh track and droppings, so things were very promising. So what happens? My buddy and I are overlooking prime spots and spent the whole day Monday sitting still and watching. Nothing moving! Same thing on Tuesday and I'm wondering "WTF?" There's not even very much gunfire from the surrounding areas. I'm packing up at last light to head back to house, and what do I hear? A pack of wolves, fairly close, just howling and singing away. To make a long story short, all the game was pushed out. I saw a fisher, a marten, a young moose cow, and 2 orphaned fawns running around, but that was it. I'd kind of hoped the pack would move out before the end of the week, but it wasn't to be. i got a shot at one of the pesky varmits on Tues. but that was the only shot fired over the whole week. To add insult to injury, on Sat. night, the 2 young deer were on the lawn about 10 feet away from me. Anyone else in the same area had the same experience? I hope the rest of you guys had better luck than we did!
