Skunks

Trust me, it's no myth.

Most skunks we've ever shot back home sprayed full bore. With shotgun or .22 it did not mater. Stinks for weeks.

Preferred method is trapping and drowning or poison once trapped.

Yeah.... I did good I thought... but ewwww what a smell 2 out of 3 with NO smell is good, but damn it smells!

I used to trap skunks and was also a fur buyer( so I put up a few). To dispatch a trapped skunk without spraying I'd just mix sardines with some antifreeze and slowly and talking quietly move in towards the skunk and place them so he could eat them. I'd then leave and come back in a while and he'd be dead. The talking slow and moving in slowly usually calms them down enough to enable you to get close enough to drop off the sardines.

You skin them like a normal critter but they have to teats near the anus that are for spraying. You carefully cut around them and then proceed skinning as normal.

To remove their stink mix in a 5 gal. pail:
1 quart of hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 tsp of liquid dishwashing soap
Now you can put the unskinned skunk in this mixture and swirl it around and then rinse it with water and then skin it. But I prefer to put the pulled hide in this mixture, rinse it a couple times and then flesh it afterwords.

I hope that answers your question, if not PM me and I'll try and give you a better answer.

Thank you :D was looking for a nice way... and dropping in the lake was out of option.

Well tonite my wife wakes me up again, says there is three skunks in the yard... I grab the mossy again and all I can see in the darkness is two.

I told her once I go outside to nail the lights. I'm outside waiting trying to line the redot up on one, and NO lights..... I finally hollered at her, come to find out that the back lite i burnt out!!!

So I lined the bugger up best I could and started cranking rds again...... dropped it NO problem...

BUT.............. this time WHAT A DAMN SMELL!!! THIS ONE STINKS!

Did alright so far 2 outta 3 NO smell......

This sucks!!!!!!!! MY ENTIRE HOUSE SMELLS!!!!!!!!!

little buggers. Last year I shot about 20. There was I think three different families. This spring I got the last few.
They all stink, some just dripple a bit.

There was a guy in our town a few years back that killed dozens of skunks. He live trapped them, slowly approached the trap and threw a blanket over it. Backed his truck up to it with a hose on the exhaust pipe, tucked it under the blanket and waited. He said not one ever sprayed.
