**Update: It's done. It took almost a year of scavaging parts but its for the most part over.
Just for anyone who's interested in going down the same path for me it added up as follows; $150 to machine the barrel down to 18.5 inches(I didn't go farther because my intention was to take this out anywhere, anytime) and install the proper thread. $45 for the flashhider, $80 for the forearm, $60 for the top rail (I actually originally cut the long SL8 down and it looked ok but the G36 is different in several ways, plus there was no arguing with the price), $600 for the lower( its availble for less but I'm impatient), $300 for a couple of mags, $140 for the ARMS throw lever mount and $700 for the Leupold QC/T scope, $40 for the G36C stock replacement (about 2" less and easier to sight), $45 for the ARMS throw lever bipod mount, and as I recall $1850 for the SL8-5. There was some other parts, like a flash light on a ARMS throw lever mount but I don't include these things as its shared with the AR, which is almost finished. Some parts were used, some new but it was just keeping the eyes open on the boards... and some occasional begging.
Muchos gracias to all board members who supplied bits and pieces.
I've heard so much about pistol grips for the SL-8 but for the life of me I can't find one... and I have tried
I've just pick up a black SL8-5 and am hungry for the pistol grip conversion. Any one know where such a toy can be found. I've searched for the Special Weapons (SW) website or retailers too no avail and have checked out the SL-8 conversion website at http://alpinetek.netfirms.com/guns/SL8/SWreview.html. Any Canadian suppliers or suppliers to Canada for the pistol grip. A folding stock is preferable but at this point I'm not prepared to be to picky.
I've seen Surefire forearms from Dave's Surplus website in BC for around $6-700. http://www.davesarmysurplus.com/product_info.php?products_id=966
Knights has a decent RAS if I can find a Canadian supplier.http://www.impactguns.com/store/KMC-99327.html
I've heard of a magwell conversion to AR mags from Wolverine in Manitoba but no confirmation yet. Some state that this makes the fit too tight. Comments?
Mine is a double stack 5 round mag. I've heard its designed not to take the G-36 mags but others state you just have to shave off some teats and they'll fit. Any word.
Actually any info at all would be great for the G-36 fan I am. I love my AR and TP-9 but I can't just take these out back plinking like I'm hopefull the SL-8 can when its tricked out. Muchos gracias
