I have recently purchased an HK SL8-4 and also bought an AR-15 magazine well conversion kit for it. When I put the original next to the new mag well they appear to be the same but when I try to install the new one the hole for the retaining pin is off about 1mm and its a very tight fit so there isnt any movement to line them up. Has anyone else had an issue with doing this conversion or am I missing something?

I will give that a shot. I didnt get any instructions with the part so it looked like it just replaced the original one.

Ok the latch came off easy enough and the conversion fits snug, holes line up etc. The next problem is the magazine doesnt lock in place when inserted. Looks to be about 5-10mm short but I cant see what the issue is. The mags are AR-15 and before I inserted the conversion in I tried the magazines and they fit fine into it and locked into place. The rifle only goes back together one way so Im not sure whats up. I am using standard AR-15 mags so I hope I dont need some fancy $100 ones to do the trick. Ideas?

I had a mag converter from Wolverine, all metal, tight fitting and I had the same issues. Mags were not high enough and at the wrong angle for proper feeding. I returned it to Wolverine for a refund, they are great folks to deal with.

I now have a plastic mag adapter I got from a company in Florida that required some filing, but is now 100% functional (even drop free!) with any AR15 magazine.

Be aware that AR mags will not engage the bolt catch in the SL8. I am going to experiment with stronger mag spring though. If only SL8/G36 mags weren't rarer than diamonds

Check out HKPRO for more info but you have to remove, dremel , some plastic from inside the SL8 receiver for the AR mag to work. After that it should work well and my have no problem holding back the bolt. The next thing that will bother you is the wear on the back of the AR mag but mine have reached a point where it's stopped and the mags work great in my AR and HK. The biggest problem is i can't find just a SL8 receiver so I can build a G36 conversion.

Same problem, Sloppy mags. but it works. We are trying to make silk purses out of sow's ears with these sl8's. Dremeling my gun was disconcerning. but it worked. But it's non restricted and when the fish cop nabs you hunting with it will be all good. I know if I had an AR I would be all to tempted to go Cayote hunting with it and I would end up screwed. Thats why these guns are great. and worth the fuss.

Ahh, thread necromancy at its finest. Anyhoo...

Just received a used AR magwell adapter and removed the little tabs in the receiver with a dremel without any trouble. The magwell fit into place just fine, and the LAR mags slide in and out without too much force, though they're not drop free by any means. However, the mag seems to be able to rock/wiggle enough that the front can drop a bit, and then the follower misses the bolt hold open on the last shot. Not too big of a deal as functionality is perfect otherwise, but I thought I'd better see if there was an easy fix for this.

Also, mag wear was mentioned, and I'm hoping that is what I'm seeing here...

Now to notch the rear of the adapter so I won't have to remove the factory mag release again.

Factory sl8 mag release spring is a pain putting back in. I too dremeled the mag adapter to fit without removing the G36 mag release. Worked flawlessly. Wish I had never sold her, but I still got pictures and now she has a good home.
