Yes, an SL8, AR15 mag conversion, dual optic and folder kit still weighs in under 4K, and an SL8 should get ATF approval for stateside travel, I doubt a G36 would.

The G36 and G36K are non-restricted in Canada.

Optics you can order from your local HK dealer, although you won't like the price or the waiting time, or hang out on US bulletin boards until one comes up for sale.

i think you mean FIND. not like there were all over the states and canada. they are here and there but not cheap.

I've always wanted a G36K is it possible to do this conversion with an SL8 and how much are we talking here? Is it possible to buy the shorter barrel or would I have to have it chopped and threaded? This rifle would be in the US.

Then you need the import/export permits and someone with a G36 barrel nut wrench and receiver vise. There are several US outfits who can do it, I don't know about Canada.

I thought the seller was in Germany, but it could have been a US auction. I've read accounts of guys that have made their own barrel wrenches and receiver holders/forms for a vice.

Seems that the going price is now around 10-11k. A friend has his up for sale with all the accessories and he is not concerned that it will sell for his asking price. I wish him good luck on the sale. It is a super gun.
