If you had the choice, what rifle would you buy ? I like the XCR but the HK SL8 Looks nice as well and for the life of me am wondering if one is just plain better than the other.

Thanks for the thoughts on this.

What do you plan on doing with said rifle?

It's sort of like saying "would you buy a motorcycle, a car or a truck if you could". They all have advantages and disadvantages depending on what they're used for.

i say sl8 or ar depends on your use. if you want non-res get the sl8. if you just go to a range ar might be better?

Not to sway your opinion or anything...

you will get the best bang out of your buck with an AR, since it's already restricted a short barrel CQB is the way to go, nothing like putting a smile on your face than a short barrel.

XCR can do pretty much AR can do, takes standard mags, comes with plenty of rails use the same furniture as AR and the multi-caliber option is nice. Every XCR is back by Wolverine's ironclad customer service, so there are no worries there.

SL-8 uses proprietary 5 round mags,no rails, non-thread barrel and awkward thumb-hole stock, all of them can be swapped out but the parts are hard to find and expansive.

Or just a Tavor w:h:

Some would say the SL8 is one of the ugliest rifles going, but looks aren't everything. Decide what you want the rifle for and it should make your choice a little easier.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I tend to agree, that SL8 is not going to win any beauty contests but at the end of the day does it really matter?

If being restricted is not a factor I would say an AR any day. It's a pretty tough rifle to top.

I dont think the sl8 is ugly but it all depends on your personal preferences. I think KDX is right, look at what you want the gun for, and use that to make your decision.

I respectfully disagree by saying the AR is F@$k ugly compared to the SL8 IMO;)

But I would gladly own both because the AR is a whole lot of tacticool sweetness with the right bits and pieces which just arn't available for the SL8.

SL8 wins in my book because its non-restricted, I am looking to get one after I get my truck next month. So if you have one you want to sell in 5-9 months flip me a PM now and we can work something out.

Only way to decide is you have to hold them you may like the looks of a certain rifle and when you have it in your hands hate the feel/look of it.

The XCR-L is the only one of the 3 you mentioned that inspired me to put out that kind of money on one of these rifles...

I have an ar , sl8 on the way and looking at getting an xcr just to cover the bases, bonuses on all really ar has more changeout parts than you can shake a stick at , xcr is a great gun for caliber swapouts and the sl8 is a Precision machined gun that has a great track record

Start with the SL8. Get the rest as you see fit. I have the AR and the SL8, the XCR isn't even a blip on my radar. I think the Swiss Arms will be next...

I used to own an SL8-4 and it shot well and I liked the looks of it and of course the fact that it is nonrestricted was nice but I had to have the lower replaced twice because it cracked in front of the bolt catch. I hear they modified the design and the new ones are better but I won't ever own one again because of it. I also just had an HK USP Tactical grenade in my hands and they are telling me it was a double charge handload and are refusing to replace it. I was using factory Remington UMC 230 grain ammo at the time but they insist it was a handload and won't do anything for me (yet, I'm still working on it).
I will never own an HK product again.

If you don't care if it's restricted go with the AR since it will cost you around half and that buys alot of ammo.
If you want non-restricted I would go with the XCR.

my 2 cents
Good luck

IMHO if you do just range shooting, the AR is by far the best and most versatile platform of those listed. If you need to be off-range, the AR isn;t even a choice though.

Of the other rifles listed, the SL8 would be my choice. Even with FN Sports/R.Nichols being the importer, you'd be better off than trying to deal with RobArm who are notorious for being downright hostile to their clients post-sale and there have been a good number of "help - problem with my XCR" threads here over the last few months. The SL8 is an older product and more of a known quantity IMHO. Though the XCR is a cooler looking rifle.

Just my $.02 worth.
