I decided to modify a SL8 stock after reading fireball sticky. I purchased the stock from Moe last spring and finally had some free time to attempt this. I used fireball post as a guide but did mine different. I didn't bend the polymer, I used aluminum for the edges.

I decided where I wanted to cut the stock, I did all my planning from one side. After getting my lines I used a drill press with a small bit and drilled through both sides in a few places. This gave me my line to make on the other side so my cuts were even.

I used JB weld and fitted the aluminum to the stock. I put two pieces together with epoxy and installed into the stock, kind of a laminate idea. I installed the pieces in the stock just slightly above the cut on the stock. I used three pieces of aluminum in the grip. After everything had set I used more epoxy at the edges, let dry then blended into the stock as a radiused edge. I used JB plastic bonder to reinforce the inside after everything had dried.

I tried to do the grip like the sticky but it didn't work out. I had problems with getting the polymer to bend. Plan B was to have it flat, worked out, comfortable to hold.

Materials and tools used.

I used the cut piece from the stock to experiment with different products to see what would work. JB weld and plastic bond both stuck very well. The plastic bond has more flex. I tried a few different paints, the Krylon dual seemed to adhere the best. You have to paint it first or they boxliner won't stick.

Thanks to fireball and his sticky.
