Biggest savings are in rifle stocks, "slabbing" actions compromise their strength and no self respected gunsmith/machinist

I agree. Makes me wonder why everyone today is so weak they can't carry an 8lb rifle? The rifles of WW1 and WW2 seemed to be handled easily along with 60 or 70 lbs of kit but today there are endless threads of 6 lbs weighing too much.
I feel a competant builder WOULD NOT remove any metal from an action to lighten it. Cleaning up threads, lugs and bolt face yes. Purposely removing metal to lighten it.......I could not see it. JMO
