Hey guys,

A couple of slab side AR15 A2 Sporter II's came into the shop yesterday on trade. Sadly no mag, original box or owners manuals.
Can anyone ID the model number of these? 20" barrel, early slabside lowers, A2 Uppers. Both of the lowers are large pivot pins.

Some photos of the first one. Its obviously used, but well cared for. The second one is next to new. Will post up some photos of
the second one shortly. It has the short buttstock which is cool. Makes this pair a father/son set. :)

We will have these listed for sale shortly.

These are R6550 Colt AR15A2 Govt Model - the R6500 models didn't have case deflectors.

Made between 1988-1990 - so pre ban (94) in the US. Cool that they have the bayonet lug but the half moon BCG.

There are other sources that suggest the R6500 did come with CD's in the later stages.

Also these have A1 lowers vs A2 lowers which the BH chart indicates is a difference on the 6500 vs 6550 also.

It's part of the fun with Colts, either way these are really nice rifles at a great price.

I first thought they were the R6550 Gov’t models as well, but the roll marks say Sporter II not Gov’t Model
S/N is an SP as well, not GS as found on the Gov’t Model. That’s why I threw them up here. Confusing times
At Colt it seems with all the different models coming in and going out.
