Sleeves for Rem 700's?

Davidson was the de facto standard. No longer available, neither is Speedy's.

Give this guy a try http://www.jj-industries.com/ he was making sleeves a couple of years ago.

Your best bet is to put a wtb post on BR.com somebody is bound to have an unused one sitting around. I would count on about $150 and up depending on who made it and how much machining went into the final product.
 
They don't sell them because its the same old story.
By the time you purchase the sleeve fix the action and all the other work required, you are further ahead to buy a custom action and you have it all. You have to alter the bolt stop, make sure you can get the trigger out (hanger) if you want to glue it in. About all a sleeve will do for you is provide a large bedding area in case you want to hang an extra large barrel on your action. It won't do much accurracy wise. regards Randy
 
The last one I bought was from Speedy Gonzalez but these are no longer available. I don't consider making one a worthwhile endeavor unless one can do it himself. Even then, he has to want to do it.
I think Rick's idea (post on benchrest .com) might be the best option.

Nope he doesn't, he was trying to source one for me as he doesn't have the machinery to make one. I guess I'll just bed the 700 and shoot the mother sucker. :D

Thanks for the info. Price was going to be the deciding factor as to whether or not I went that route. If I could pick one up for around $100 it would be worth it, anymore and I might as well have got a custom as someone already stated since I am already around $800 into the action with the accurizing and action cost.

As a matter of fact I happen to have a 17A Contour barrel hanging off said action. And I do tend to prefer a straight blank most of the time.

Speak with mick. There is a fellow named Stanley in Sorrento that is dying to CNC stuff for firearms and make a name. He does muzzle brakes for $35, barrel blocks are a bit more.

If you gave him the action, he would CNC a sleeve.

Corlane Sports in Dawson Creek does sleeving as well.

They are a good way to stiffen a repeater action and provide more bedding area and build a platform onto which you can solidly mount a scope base.
 
Rich! I've had Stan make some stuff for me and think this would be right up his alley! I have a ph.# for him somewhere if you are interested and he usually gives me a call when he is in town
 
If you have Stan make one up, have him make the sides at 92 degrees to the bottom rather than 90. It makes bedding and subsequent removal and replacement much easier. This assuming you want a hexagonal or flat bottomed sleeve. I see no reason to bed the tang so just sleeve to the rear of the bridge but this is up to you. The rear of the sleeve is adquate as a recoil lug. Regards, Bill
 
I'm for the bedding block theory also. I suppose that's another reason why action sleeves have almost disappeared from the market. Hanging extra heavy barrels makes sense on blocks and they are much easier to make. Floating the action entirely has proven to be exceptionally accurate.
 
I suspect sleeving has gone out of vogue due to the limited number of living machinists talented enough to make them.

With the weight restrictions in F-Class, a straight blank and a barrel block add up the ounces real fast, paticularly if you throw a 12-42X56 on top and a Remple bipod underneath.

Alum barrel block works for me and I have even added lead to my stock to make weight.

I doubt a sleeve weights that much less.

Obtunded, I think all those talented machinist found that making a complete action was a lot more profitable.

And a lot less headache....
