sleeving a 1894 30-30 carbine

Is it possible or plausable to sleeve a 1894 SRC 30-30 down to a 25-20...The gun is in unoriginal condition and cannot be restored..and I have more carbines in 30-30. Approx cost would help the decision also. PM me with ideas please.

On a second thought....why not have it drilled out to a 38-55 cal ...if enough steel is left for the barrel to be safely shot....

Reboring to .38-55 would be a possibility. Sleeving to .25-20 would be a real challenge, not only for the barrel work, but for the action alterations as well. Don't know if it would even be possible. It is not common to try to sleeve centrefire rifles using bottlenecked cartridges to a smaller calibre; while .25-35 might be possible, reboring to .38-55 would be do-able. Easiest would be a simple rebarrel. In my experience, M94 barrels are timed, and can be swapped. Whether headspace would be acceptable could depend on action wear, etc. But you could keep your eyes open for a 94 barrel in the calibre of your choice.

Can a round barrel be swapped for an octagon.? the SRC is dom 1908. Maybe a rebarrel is possible but costwise? I see the reasons to change the action innards for dropping in ammo casing size, but if sleeved, I am not averse to single loading. Probably need a different extractor too. Guess going up in caliber is the only remedy.

Barrel shanks are standard. Forends, forend hangers, magazine tube fittings will vary, depending on the barrel. A '92 .25-20 barrel would likely screw onto a '94 receiver, for a single shot, but extraction and headspace could be challenges.
It is not hard to unscrew a '94 barrel, or screw on a replacement. Ask around gunshops, or on the EE, and it is likely that a barrel could be found.
