Hi, I'm shouting out to all of you who own and use multiple pump action shotguns, and I'd like to know, which has the slickest, lightest, easiest action in a consumer/utility grade gun.

thanks for your time,
Bobby.

UPDATE!
I didn't explain myself, and perhaps I should have..

I'm a guy in a wheelchair, who'd like to learn to do some types of trick shooting. You see, I'm right now shooting 10 meter air rifle and air pistol, and after between one and five hours a day of practice, I find myself getting bored, so I'd like to mix it up a bit, and learn another type of shooting to help keep me motivated. Something fast and lively, even if I can't compete in it.

The winchester 1300 has some features that other might find less than perfect.

But it has an extremely fast action time, by design.

3 rounds, in 56/100ths of a second.

Now I'm also going to be looking for an extremely fast and comfortable, progressive reloading press to help me feed the bastard.

Thank you all for your help, I'm sorry if I irritated anybody by not choosing their particular favorite, it's just that I had a very specific, if uncommon function in mind, and the Winchester 1300 defender, happens to excell, by all accounts, in that portion of the performance envelope.

Bobby.

from what i remember, the 870 mm (w/ nickel finish) was pretty nice. but then again, my 870p is nice too ;)

The High-Standard Riot shotgun is a very slick one; works about the same as the old Winchester Model 12 without the sophistication and has a cartridge elevator that swings away in upper position so the loading gate is always clear for loading.
The Smith&Wesson model 3000 is also a very good one, being basically a reworked, slicked and improved 870.
Both are no longer in production...
PP.

Obbviously nobody here has fired the winchester defender 1300. These shotguns, while no longer in production have a pump assist feature. This feature is almost like a pistols blowback operation from the recoil of the shot. I have & can hold my deffender with one hand or no hand on the pump & it will fully retract & extract the shell then all I have to do is shake the gun forward with one hand & it will reload another. To be fair I have only fired under 10 different pumps but I am so glad I bought this one before they stopped making them. When I lost my job this was the only gun I didn't sell.

the receiver is made out of alluminum so some people dont trust it, but I have allready put thousands of different loads through this gun with no problems ever.
the only pump I ever saw jam was a 870 wingmaster, although the guy never cleaned it. :jerkit:

Winchester 2200 has a very nice action to it. The one I have is MUCH smoother and lighter than any 870 I have used....and also much smoother than my S&W 3000, but that's because there's something wrong with it.

What are you thinking of using it for?

Remington model 31 riot gun

Ithaca model 37 riot gun

Browning BPS high capacity (new model)

Remington 870 Police or Marine Magnum

If you can find a Reminton model 31, in excellent shape, in the riot format.....they almost run themselves.

Rem 31, for sure, no question.

The Win 1200 rotary bolt is a close second. But the difference between how each feels are like night and day. The Win model 12 has a much more solid 'feel' to it because of the machined, forged parts, but that little hiccup at the start of the pump cycle has caused a lot of false starts.

That all being said, all actions will get slicked up with use and wear.

+1 on the High Standard, the slickest of them all!

.

bluecanoed x 2. even the later version ithacas were very smooth with a short stroke and only one action bar. the used ithacas for the most part, sell as an economy shotgun. prices ranging from $150.00 to $400.00.

Remington Mod. 31 the best pump gun ever made.

Thank you gentlemen, after reading all of your posts, and cross referencing them on the web, I guess the Winchester 1300 defender is the one for me.

That kinetic assist feature sounds just dandy.

Now,....of course they aren't made anymore.....just have to talk to my local gun store, and keep an eye out on the equipment exchange.

what???
you're gonna choose your shotgun based on the above answers. you asked "which has the slickest, lightest, easiest action in a consumer/utility grade gun." not which gun they would choose to own...
all the guns mentioned are clearly nice to operate... you should maybe do more research before making a purchase based on the above replies :)

not that there's anything wrong w/ the Winchester 1300. i'd just rather have an 870 if i were to have either. but go to a local shop and feel both for yourself!!

good luck;)

Slickest and utility grade? That is the Browning BPS hi cap. $460 @ SIR.

Maybe not on the top of the list due to lack of after market accessories and what not, but a pretty good shotgun. I'd buy one. :D

YES Bobby, you wont be upset. I have seen 2 recently for sale in EE.

By far the 870 is the most widely preffered & used pump, followed by mossberg. its fact. The 870 has the most parts available to chose from. I wanted to buy an 870 but I bought the Defender cuz it was only 250 at the time. Never looked back. The only thing I dont like about the defender is the location of the pump/slide release(dont know if thats what it is called).

:runaway:1300 WINS THE COMPETITION :runaway:

The underdog Pee's on the 870 with its action assist :D

The Model 31 was the father of the 870. Imagine a hand made 870 no stamped parts, everything was machined by guy's at their bench. This was Remington's Pre 64 model 70. Model 12's run and hide when their's a 31 in the room.

Hey! Win/64,

We seem to be in a small group, that think the Model 31...is the cats ass.:) The one I have is a 20" barreled riot gun....even has military markings and it's almost mint.:D Don't know if you are interested in getting another, but I noticed that Epps has one listed on their website....comes with a 26" barrel and a 30" barrel. Just in case your interested??? I may even try and beat you to it.;)

What a ridiculous discussion.

Plainly, a whole raft of shotguns are way better than good enough, so you'd be crazy to buy one that isn't made anymore, and/or you can't get parts for, or...

Just get an 870, and put 1000 shells though it. It'll be slick enough.

I mean, who cares if a shotgun is 10 times as good as you need, or 11 times as good as you need?
