Slickest, lightest action? (pump)

What a ridiculous discussion.

Plainly, a whole raft of shotguns are way better than good enough, so you'd be crazy to buy one that isn't made anymore, and/or you can't get parts for, or...

Just get an 870, and put 1000 shells though it. It'll be slick enough.

I mean, who cares if a shotgun is 10 times as good as you need, or 11 times as good as you need?

What makes you think the Winchester Defender is only "good enough"? Have you ever shot one? If you check on the net you will find that it is a very respected shotgun. Mine seems fine even though I have not put 1000 shell through it.

slickest action right out of the box has to be the Remington Marine Magnum because of the electroless nickel plating.

what???
you're gonna choose your shotgun based on the above answers. you asked "which has the slickest, lightest, easiest action in a consumer/utility grade gun." not which gun they would choose to own...
all the guns mentioned are clearly nice to operate... you should maybe do more research before making a purchase based on the above replies :)

not that there's anything wrong w/ the Winchester 1300. i'd just rather have an 870 if i were to have either. but go to a local shop and feel both for yourself!!

No, what I did was, I asked a question, then I took ALL of the answers I got, and then googled all of the guns.

I know for a fact, that the 870 is a really nice shotgun, with a myriad of excellent features, I now know more about all other shotguns like the Ithaca etc...etc.., and I chose the one that suits my needs from more technical discussions

P.S. I specifically wanted a fast cycling pump action shotgun, and I am willing to make compromises in other areas.

Hey! Win/64,

We seem to be in a small group, that think the Model 31...is the cats ass.:) The one I have is a 20" barreled riot gun

No, you're not!!

In my research I found that many people think it's an awesome gun, and bluebooks for anything between 250 and 2000 dollars depending on make, model and condition.

That was my runner up, (riot model) for a fast action.

Oh Yeah, I totally agree with you! (for the average person).

It's just that I'm not a hunter, and I won't be using this firearm in the average way.

I'm a guy in a wheelchair, who'd like to learn to do some types of trick shooting. You see, I'm right now shooting 10 meter air rifle and air pistol, and after about one to five hours a day of practice, I find myself getting bored, so I'd like to mix it up a bit, and learn another type of shooting to help keep me motivated. Something fast and lively, even if I can't compete in it.

The winchester 1300 has some features that other might find less than perfect.

But it has an extremely fast action time, by design.

3 rounds, in 56/100ths of a second.

Now I'm also going to be looking for an extremely fast progressive reloading press to help me feed the bastard.

Thank you all for your help, I'm sorry if I irritated anybody by not choosing thier particular favorite, it's just that I had a very specific, if uncommon function in mind, and the Winchester 1300 defender, happens to excell, by all accounts, in that portion of the performance envelope.

YES Bobby, you wont be upset. I have seen 2 recently for sale in EE.

By far the 870 is the most widely preffered & used pump, followed by mossberg. its fact. The 870 has the most parts available to chose from. I wanted to buy an 870 but I bought the Defender cuz it was only 250 at the time. Never looked back. The only thing I dont like about the defender is the location of the pump/slide release(dont know if thats what it is called).

:runaway:1300 WINS THE COMPETITION :runaway:

The underdog Pee's on the 870 with its action assist :D

True, for most(myself included), the 870 and Mossy 500 and 590 are the obvious choices for the relatively low cost pump shotgun. Particularly with the 870, it is simply versatile and has plenty of support from the aftermarket.

However, there are other options out there and the Win1300 is a great one. You can help but like the Speed Pump. The lightness(like the Moss due to the alu receiver) benefits most users on a day to day basis. It is also cheaper than the 870s and 500s in general.

Back awhile a new 1300 Defender at MSRP was $375 and came with a pistol grip and a regular stock(very natural fitting for me).

Right now, I don't have a Win 1300 but I might have to convince a friend's dad, that he doesn't need his mint 1300 XTR with beautiful wood stock and I would be glad to take the burden off his hands :p

Wheelchair or not the Model 37 is the slickest next to glass shot-gun ever made!

Try one and you will buy one!

Has he already purchased one? Have you?

Ithaca 37 (early years), these are the best... I have one in the cabinet (1937), one getting the poly choke cut from it (1943), and another in the mail (1955). These are THE best shotguns ever... these things are slicker than a sweating muffin!

Actually, in all honesty, DON'T get an Ithaca 37... I want it.

The Ithaca and the Browning are both great guns. If I was a lefty I would probably have 3. The bottom eject can be a pain in a waterfoul shoot. Just seems to gum up easily. The other negative is, I was allways tripping over my empties.

I've got a Wingmaster and a 1300 (Defender version). The 1300 is faster/slicker. That being said, I reach for the Benelli most days. :runaway::D
