Slide going into battery after slamming mag home. Normal?

I had this happen a few times to my P345. I would slip a loaded mag into the gun and the slide would snap shut, cocked and with a round in the chamber.
I have never had this happen with any other gun.
The dealer who sold it to me says it's normal.
 
I have had this happen twice to my XD40. Both times were during a match and I was really slamming the mag home in efforts to make up some time. (yeah, I know better than to run dry in a match:redface:)
I have never had this happen when just shooting relaxed at the range with normal pressure mag insertion.

Not all semi's do this but it's not unusual. I see it more prevalent with Glocks than say 1911's or BHP's. In a combat situation it probably is preferable to know that you can get your pistol to the ready that more quickly in a reload situation. Might give you a slight edge in a competition, too. Shouldn't be an issue.

If however, the pistol fired the first round after doing the above then I'd say there's definitely an "issue"... ;)
 
Yeah I showed that trick to Dad when I first started to shoot IPSC with his Glock 17 C, Since I did not really count my rounds...
 
My S&W 5946 does this with some of the mags but not all. Also there's a technique to it. Now that being said, never do this with a magazine that isn't fully loaded. I did this once just to demonstrate/try it with only 5 rounds in the mag. Ya it worked, but the pistol will not fire. The round was pointing straight up and wouln't feed, even though the pistol appeared to be in battery. It gives you a stage 2 failure.
 
I seem to see a lot of Glock guys who like showing this off ;)

I've been debating about buying a glock just to be able to do it too!
 
I had a guy ask me about 18 years ago at my range, if he could have a shot at my CZ, 'cause he'd really tried to get one and couldn't at the time. I obliged and my return favour was a run at his new (used outta the crate WW2 BHP from the warehouse here in Ottawa) BHP.
He loaded mine up and ran a clip through it and was very impressed and happy. I did the same with his BHP, and when I slapped the clip into it, it let a round into the roof of the shooting stage, but continued to slam fire for probably three more rounds.
That's the only time I've seen anything like it and in my opinion it probably shouldn't make the slide go forward, for any reason, when you slam in a clip.

My Baby Eagle did it too. I just had to hit the mag in the right angle. (a little bit forward, so the inertia of the slide holds it back while the rest of the gun moves forward from the hit so the slide stop can slip down.)
