Will the return spring get fatigued if the slide is left locked back long term?

Odd question but I will explain. My wife is having a harder and harder time cocking center fire auto pistols due to declining health. Would leaving the slide locked back on her S&W M&P 2.0 9mm when stored cause it to wear out the return spring. I am not always around when she goes shooting so thinking the slide left locked back in storage would be convenient for her.

If loaded mags not wearing out mag springs is any indication of modern springs then I think the gun's return spring would be OK but I want to know what you all think.

Please keep it about the spring and not her health guys. We have exhausted all the options to make it easier for her and her strength is not going to come back.

Thanks folks

Yes and no, will it technically wear out the spring slowly “yes”
Will this effect performance or reliability no.

My advice would be to get a aftermarket guide rod with a 10lb spring, also most females/ non experienced shooters like the #### or cycle the firearm slowly and this actually makes it harder to do, #### a gun lightning fast ( moving both hands towards each other)
And it’s allot easier.
I believe you are stock at 18lb I could see a maximum drop of 1-3 lb over years of being left open so it is not a problem.

Springs only become weaker from moving from one position to another. You are good to go, keep it locked backed.

Stock spring in a 9mm M&P is 16 pounds, I wouldn’t change it unless you want it to be less reliable. Mine aren’t 100% reliable with a 13 pound recoil spring.
