Hello all,

I am considering mounting a RDS (SHIELD RMSw) on my Walther PPQ M1. It is NOT optics-ready, so I need the slide milled.

1. What is the legal process for shipping a firearm part to the US and back for getting work done? I believe that the FRAME, being the serialized part, counts as the firearm?

2. Failing that - who in Canada could do this work? I would prefer to support a Canadian company - Black Box Customs has said they can't, or would have to try it out, which leaves me a bit iffy.

Any information is appreciated.

Thank you!

As far as I know, if you want to export your slide to the United States, even temporarily, you need to have the right paperwork. If you can spare the time, and you find a willing contractor, perhaps you could plan a vacation during which the slide could be milled; if this was possible, for it to be done while you waited, a Form 6NIA would let you take it there and back yourself. If, however, you cannot spare the time, or if you cannot find a contractor willing to accomodate you in this respect, I think you'd need to employ the services of a licensed import/export business (such as Borderview, Irunguns, Joe Salter, or Prophet River) who can file all of the paperwork and get all of the necessary approvals (to do it legally).

I suspect that it'd be cheaper for you to just buy a new slide (or a new pistol).

I'm a machinist and have access to many CNC and manual machines. Dm me a pic of what you have and what you need and we can go from there!

Some shops have program cnc machines
I had a company make me some hydraulic parts out of stainless instead of the factory blue steel
Took them a week, very reasonable cost
Maybe some one could program your slide dimensions and the cut
