Slide milling recommendation / advice

Hello all,
Getting old sucks and my eyes are not what they used to be, but I find I’m having much better success with Red Dot sights. (Currently on my S&W M&P 22 and soon on my S&W SW22 Victory).

That being said, my favourite 9mm is my CZ 75B New Edition, (two tone stainless) to which I would like to add a Red Dot. Now I know there are all sorts of dovetail adapters and picatinny rails via CZ custom etc but they leave the sight sitting so high that to me, it ruins the lines of the gun. I'm also not necessarily concerned about co-witness with the iron sights, but would like to keep them there in the event of optic failure.
So my question is; have any of you had a CZ 75B slide milled to receive a Red Dot directly alla M&P C.O.R.E, FNX etc?
I’ve looked at the factory specs for the most popular sights and it looks tight, but possible.
If so, can you recommend a Canadian Smithy that does it well?

Any input is appreciated.
Mark

I can't say I've ever found a CZ with this done, but I would shoot the guys at black box customs an email asking them.
I'm confident in saying that if it CAN be done, they'd be the ones to do it. Their service and their workmanship is second to none.

Try Dlask. They were the CZ warranty center for awhile (so know CZs) and they offer slide milling services.

How did you mount the red dot to your M&P 22 ?I have one myself and I'm in the same boat I vision wise as you.

Amaz0n, Mako Universal Picatinny Rail. Has to be on good and tight to keep zero and has to be removed to take off the slide completely, but it made a big difference in my accuracy. (Took ages to get here though, shipped from Israel).

Checked out their sight and Wow they've done some cool stuff!
Thanks for the referral!

I contacted Black Box, in regards to having my shadow 1 slide milled. They said it can't be done to that model. Your best bet would be to email them.

If black box doesn't have a program for that particular gun it's not likely they will take on the project, they focus mainly on glocks, I recently called to ask about getting some forward slide serations on a 1911 but they don't have a program for 1911's if anyone knows any places that will do it let me know!

They might not do it, but there is plenty of images on the web of shadows with the slides milled which would indicate that it can be done.

You're absolutely right! I took a few minutes and found my model of cz with milled slides. I guess black box couldn't do it, not that it can't be done.

I do like the way the reddot is mounted low when milled and IMO has a nice clean look to it, but I don't think I could do it to my shadow 2 incase i ever decided to sell it. I just ordered a Springer Precision dovetail mount and going to install a Vortex Venom.

I have a cz custom dovetail mount on my shadow 1. With a vortex venom. Have put over 7 thousand rds thru it.
Not one problem, still holds zero.

It's slightly more complicated than that. =(

Unfortunately, it's not a matter of just milling the slide to accept the new optic. The CZ75 slide is narrow and most of the bolt patterns of the common optics are too wide. Also, a majority of the optic will hang off the sides, depending on the optic this may allow moisture to get in. To properly mount a optic onto a narrow slide, you'd have to find or make a mounting plate that goes in between the optic and slide. At this current moment there isn't a plate the we know of designed for the CZ75, the alternative is to manufacture the plate for the top 4 optics that customers are using (RMR, Deltapoint, Venom and Viper). We are currently working on the ladder. =D

Thanks Jay, (you can ignore my email to your website now...).
I thought the slide was a little thin and hadn't considered the water issue.
Think I'll take the advice of Sureshot73 and Snooker and reconsider the dovetail mount from Springer. I was hesitant to modify this otherwise gorgeous gun permanently anyways.

Thanks all for your input!
