Slide Release M&P9

When I release the slide on my M&P9 should I use the slide release or should I just grab the slide and "slingshot" into battery? The reason I ask is that buddy told me it was better to slingshot the slide rather than use the slide release. Any suggestion as to why he would suggest this? What is better? I don't have much trouble with either way, just want to do it "right".

One way is no more "right" than the other. As you pointed out, both methods work just fine. Use which ever one you are most comfortable with.

It is a misconception that using the slide release is a weaker method that may result in a feed failure. I suppose if you worked the slide release in such a way that also caused the slide to slow it's charge into battery, you might conceivably have a mis-feed....

because of the small slide release I slingshoot the slide on my M&P...I find it easier and faster.

Some prefer the slingshot, others prefer the over hand, but I just use the slide release which the ultra-tactical types will say is "wrong".

The M&P slide stop was designed as a stop not a stop/release IIRC.

If that was the case why would they put levers on both sides of the frame?
