Slide stop or slide release?

There's some confusion over whether it's one or the other. All of my pistol manuals refer to it as a slide stop. Let's settle it once and for all.

It's either or. Both terms are correct, what's YOUR problem?

Slide stop. You don't call the brakes on your truck your truck release when you take your foot off the pedal so why would you call the slide stop a slide release when you push it down?

Not that I care to argue, since this topic really makes no difference in the world I live in...

When you push up on the lever, you engage the slide stop (the notch or nub inside the slide that actually stops the slide from going into battery)
When you push down on the lever, you disengage the slide stop or "release" the slide...

So slide stop and slide release are both actions you can do by actuating that particular part of the firearm.

And for those who use their parking brakes.... Most trucks have a pedal you push and a lever to release....

It is put on all auto-loaders to STOP the slide from returning forward.
If it wasn't there, there wouldn't be anything to release.
Yes, you can press it and release the slide but, it's design purpose
is to halt the slide when the mag is empty.
Release it how you want.

I just can't believe there are people who think it matters. Push it up, it's a stop. Push it down, it's a release. Who cares? If you're the kind of guy who thinks it's really critical to call it one or the other...change your personality, because you are going to die a virgin.
