Slide Wear on a Norinco 1911

Hi All,

I have Norinco 1911, 9mm pistol.
I have noticed some wear occuring on the slide, near the muzzle. It looks like it is caused by the slide contacting the inside of the frame when the slide is pulled back, either manually or when fired. The pistol is a black finish, which is starting to come off in that area.

I have noticed that there is a small amount of play between the slide and the fram. Is this a common problem for these handguns? Is there an easy/cost effective fix?

i saw the same thing on my Norc 1911 Commander. a bit of side-to-side play up front, and the blue is wearing off. i was thinking that MAYBE the cheap-n-dirty fix is to just glue in a strip of felt along the inside front of the frame, a U-shape to "cradle" the slide.. you'd still need to redo the blueing though, but apparently there's a simple chemical method for it.

ya know, i've always wondered how exactly does one "tighten" the machined fits between slides, frames, etc. maybe i'll check the links, but are they sticking the slide into a vice and compressing it a bit, or inserting nylon guides, or what? how exactly does one "tighten" the fit between two machined metal parts? there's no adjustment screws for those things...

Well imagine if you took a hammer and pounded down on the rail..... it would compress downwards and get fatter.... this would make the fit in the slot tighter.

There are many other books and videos available for sale.
(You can do a search for "match conditioning 1911A1".)

Perhaps your local public library can make them available to you.

I don't see anything free from the internet.

Play between the slide and frame is quite common on 1911 pistols, as noted above there a few methods of reducing this play, all of which are better done by someone with both training and experience (and the correct tools). As far as accuracy goes, it does affect accuracy to some degree, but not as much as say, hard fitting a barrel and bushing.
