I took 3 shotguns away for the long weekend last week and although I never got a chance to use them, or take them out in the rain, the moisture must have gotten to them anyways inside the case in the back of my truck. The only gun affected was my 870 Exp. Sup. Mag that has the rough mat finish on it. The surface rust was very very slight, but I could see the orange ting on the gun. I used some G96 spray on it and rubbed it down with a cloth, then some rem oil and a cloth and it looks pretty good but I have the sneaky suspicion I will see the orange ting again next time I go check in on my babies in the safe.

Any tips to really get into this textured surface to get all of this orange gone for good?

The textured finish on 870's is vulnerable to rusting. Keep the surface well oiled. Use a thicker oil (eg 30 wt motor oil) if you want longer lasting protection - the lighter oils tend to evaporate over time.

This is a common issue with 870 Express models.

Why Remington hasn't fixed this problem over time escapes me.

You just have to look at it with moist eyes to set it rusting...

Perhaps get it bead blasted and parkerized?

If I touch my 870 express without oiling it afterwards I can expect rust. The finish is horrible on all 870 express models are especially prone to rust.
