Slightly Disappointed.

My point is budget items are going to have issues with fit and finish and if you want to be THAT picky you should only be purchasing in person to go over the items with your own eyes.

I’m sure there are ruger Americans out there with a better fit and finish than yours. I’m sure there are rifles with worse. Ruger is not known for their fit and finish and never has been. Especially not in their budget line up.

IMO if the rifle shoots well you got a gem. If it doesn’t shoot well I would move it along in a hurry before they become more readily available.

Moral of the story is don’t expect premium quality out of a budget item, and certainly don’t point it at the guy that simply imported it for you.
I do know ruger's overall quality isn't the best and thats what I said in the original post. I kind of knew this predicament would happen with cerakoted firearms from the factory so I called IRG to ask if they can inspect the rifle for any visible flaws with the coating specifically before sending it out to me. They assured me not to worry at all.

I've purchased more "budget" rugers, more "premium" rugers. Never had a problem with any. Purchased more "budget" guns in general and never had anything close to this. Even my surplus, having some scratches and what not does not compare to this.

Can you see where I'm disappointed in? Called in asking for them to take a look and was assured of it. Out of the box it tells a completely different story.

I understand where your disappointment comes from. In my opinion you should only be buying firearms in person so you’re able to select the cream of the crop. I don’t blame irunguns at all here. I believe the cause of this post was not negligence on irunguns this is just a case of overly picky consumer.

I’m sure you can get your money back for your gun. Don’t bash this man’s business. Cheers and merry christmas.

As many have said it’s a budget rifle. Since we like comparing rifles to hammers why don’t you walk into a Canadian tire.. pick up a master craft hammer and pick up a estwing hammer and tell me which one has the better fit and finish. If you were upset about the finish on a model 70 Supergrade, or a mark V deluxe I would totally be in your corner. But dude it’s a ruger American. Your rifle quite possibly has the most fugly stock ever created and it’s cerecoated no blued. Not only was your rifle made to be a tool it’s like a power fist disposable tool.

Use the rifle and enjoy it. Some rifles are meant to not have to worry about and this is one of them. I agree with the majority here that you’re being a little ridiculous. And this CERTAINLY is NO FAULT of irunguns at all. If you want to be mad be mad at ruger and stop bashing a business over this.
Estwing is not a premium hammer lol but point made totally agree

Maybe you did get the best one they had.

Man idk what y'all are about on this thread. If I bought a new rifle and it had some wack marring on the crown I'd be pissed.
I the picture I looked at it looks like the muzzle brake is where the ding is and it would be fairly easy to clean up or replace.

A damaged crown would be potentially worse. At the end of the day if the OP is not happy he should be able to get in touch with IGR and see what they will do for him, possibly return the item, and of course he could come here and vent his frustrations and disappointments, which could be step 1 or step 2.

Yet when I ask if IRG could look over my order before sending it out, I get this.
iirc IRG is just a forwarding agent? or do they have an inventory selection to choose from?
maybe yours IS the best they could find

do they charge extra for the inspection service?
after all time is money, time to open the packages and inspect and compare and repackage
then the whole exchange process, must cost

Muzzle brakes removable, change it out for a better one, & sell that one..or ask IRG to swap it out for you.
New guns of most brands are absolute shıt in fit and finish.

I still tend to buy guns in the 20 - 40 yr old range.
It's also a befit of buying used guns... they often come pre dinged and marred.... takes the edge off and helps a guy relax about adding some more character marks along the way.

If it shoots good its a keeper in my books. You could contact Ruger about the blemishes to see what they have to say though.

so your point is all budget items should come with visible defects and we should just accept that as it because its a "budget"
Have you considered contacting IRG about your problem with the product you received?
They might be more help then a bunch of "suck it up buttercup" type advice here on Christmas eve.

They do have inventory in Canada. That batch has been imported already by the dozen. On their website as of right now, they still have inventory

That's the pickle.... I doubt IRG will want it back if it's been shot.

I bought a $1500 Carbon Fiber acoustic guitar years ago that had some issues and the offer to swap it was there, when the new guitar arrived I found I actually preferred the sound of the one with issues and kept it. It was the most expensive guitar I had ever purchased and I was bummed but in the end I learned to appreciate it for how it played and sounded.

What did they say when you contacted them? You might have to wait for a reply if you haven't already reached out given it's Christmas

If they promised to inspect it and send one with a perfect finish, then that is what should have happened and I doubt that the average one comes out of the factory with the muzzle brake looking like that.

Doesn't matter if it is a cheap gun, great deal, imported through whatever, or if you are going to use it as a boat anchor. If your expectations were unrealistic they should have told ya.

That being said, those were a smoking deal from IRG and well worth what you paid for it with a little marring of the finish, so go shoot it, have fun, and Merry Christmas!
