Hi Guys,

I ordered a pair of slim grips from VZ for my Norcinco, as the stock brown plastic grips are both cracked and unsightly...

I know the bushings in a Norinco are too big for the slim stocks, and they cannot be replaced easily as they have a metric thread. My question was, is it a hard job to file down the bushings to size? Would the screws need to be filed down too?

I was going to have a gunsmith do it, but if it is an easy job I feel as though I could do it myself... What kind of metal file/tools would one need for such an operation? Has anyone else done this to a Norinco?

Thanks!

screw will have to be shortened too, I haven't gotten mine but I believe that regular 1911 screws fit in the Norinco bushings ( i could be wrong through) so if you order shortened screws and file your bushing it should be fine. If you do shorten, file, cut the screws or bushing just watch out that you do not wreck the threads.

If it were me, I'd try it myself. A good mill bastard file would do the job, as would a rotary tool. Go slow, check often, as you probably don't want to replace the bushings if you go too far.

Keep the new grips. Throw the gun away.

Always has to be one............
It's not hard if your handy with the file. put some masking tape on the frame to protect the finish if you slip, be gentle and go slow. You will have to shorten the screws, but i believe (not 100%) the norc screws are metric. No bigs, just shorten them to suit. if they're sticking out they'll drag on the mag and you'll know.

I was under the impression that the screws and the inside of the bushings were sae and the outside of the bushings (where they thread into the frame) were metric. If I am wrong please correct me before I order new screws.

From what Ive seen the bushings and screws are both metric. To change them out all you have to do is re-tap the frame and put the new bushings in.I have just ordered some new bushings and screws from Wilson to try this out.It cost me 16 usd for 4 stainless steel bushings and 4 stainless steel Hex screws.Dont forget to order another 84 bucks of stuff to get the most of shipping :)I have also just read on the 1911 forums that you need this, standard size (.236 60NS-2) bushing tap.
