Feeling a little ill today, so i was poking around on the web looking at different 'carry' systems for rifles.

I mean, slings are great and all, but some guns don't really suit a sling. And sometimes i just perfer not having a sling to think about when you're carrying thru the bush and such. or if you're just carrying for 'bear defense' or something and you want it out of the way but accessible.

Has anyone tried any of these 'sling alternatives' or aides?

For quick draw action...

For longer hikes or handsfree carry without 'sliding shoulder syndrome'...

For atv's or for a second rifle or for 'slings without a sling'...

Anyone else got any alternate carry systems they've been wondering about?

Ha! well let us know how well it works afeild zedex - i'm curious :)

(ps - i wouldn't reccomend doing any cartwheels with it like they show - i'm thinking YOUR gun may be safe, but someone else is bound to shoot at you if they see you flippin' across the feild like that.. :) )

I tried it out walking around in my garage. Seems to work great. The gun is very stable. Will be going hunting tomorrow morning so i will test it. Very easy to make if you have some 1/4 inch UHMW sitting around. :)

LOL - should have checked my email first i guess -

UHMW is ultra high molecular weight polyethylene. Used in saw mill equipment, sliders on skidoo tracks, skid plates. Basically a flexible slippery plastic. 1.000.001 uses. :)

Thanks Rob :D I tried out the gun strap gizmo this morning . It worked excellent. Gun stayed put with only a small amount of force on the shoulder. The nice thing about it is you can concentrate on the trail and on glassing and not have to play around with the usual gun sliding off the shoulder BS. Easy to unstrap too. This thing works great.
I didnt try the cartwheel trick as i think cartwheels are pretty ###. Not that theres anything wrong with ### cartwheels. Just not my cup o tea. :D

If i hadnt already made one of these gizmos i would definitely buy one. The belt makes a difference though. The better wider the belt the more force spread about around the waist/hip area.

I don't bother with that sling stuff. I hire a labourer from 'cash corner' and much like a golf caddy (shooting is like golf, just way more fun and you don't break your rifles like you may do with a club) he carries it for me. When I ned to shoot, he gets down on his hands and knees so I can shoot benchrest style (cause I always shoot better at the range! )

All in all it works well!

I very much like the Safari Ching Sling from Galco USA. You can't see it very well in the pic, but there is an adjustable short strap joining the two halves of the main strap. Just pull the short strap up behind your upper arm and the support from a rested position is the same as from a military sling.

Doug hunted with me last fall and had a viper? sling. It was kind of a neat outfit as it lets you get your rifle up from the sling position without removing it from your shoulder.
