A sling stud on the forstock of my LTR busted a couple weeks ago.

So I thought ok no problem, i'll run out to the local store to replace it... pshhhh i was mistaken. I have been there twice getting two separate studs hoping that they will work.

The problem is that the HS precision stock that the rifle comes with has a very specific threading to the studs that do not match the average wood or synthetic stock.

I called remington to enquire about ordering a replacement part or if it is included with my warranty (which it is) they told me that because the stock is HS precision and all the parts that go into it i.e. the sling stud, belong to them, that I would have to send in my entire stock to them so they could send it off to H-SP.

Now that isn't really bad news, more just an inconvenience, but I would rather not send out my entire stock out to remington just to get a simple little sling stud replaced..

Is there a way I can get the part more directly without having to mail out my entire stock? any of you smithies have some ideas or places I can enquire.

I will call HS precision if I have to, but would rather not have to add the long distance charge to my phone bill unless you guys don't have any ideas.

thanks in advance

I just drilled mine out, and counter sunk a bolt in from the top that matches the swivel that I bought. Then I just put it together, epoxy to glue the bolt to the top, and loctite to fix the swivel to the bolt. Mine never pulled out, just wiggled. I think the above is over kill, but it made me mad enough one time I guess.

Typically studs have either a thread for wood or a 10-32 machine screw.

Run a 10-32 tap into it and install a regular stud using loctite.

Typically yes, but thats exactly my problem, the HS-P stock is untypical.

I don't want to do any drastic moves until I have to, which then I will try some of your ideas. Rick from ATR is working diligently between rem and hsp trying to get the part and I think he will be successful. It is covered through warranty anyway because the stud was faulty to begin with.

The studs on my 1992 Remington Varmint Synthetic stock (wich is an HS)
have 10-32 unc threads.

Take a 10-32 nut (try sceewing it to you rear stud to see if it fit) with you
to your gunstore to pick the right stud for your gun. On my gun the front and
rear studs were the same, have you tried your rear stud at the front of your
stock? This will tells you the lenght needed too.

Jocelyn.

I might do that.. will see after the gunsmith I bought the rifle from gets back to me, he has been trying to get one for me for free from the company.
