Hi

Does the Butler Creek small slip on recoil pad (4.85x1.5 inches) fit OK on a No4? I have a Longbranch I'd like to shoot more often. Don't want to modify it, so I'm hoping a slip on recoil pad will make it more comfortable to shoot for casual target practice.

Don't have a Butler Creek, but the Pachmayr one I have is a bit too big. The sleeve is ok, but the pad itself hangs off the bottom a bit too much.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll try the small Butler Creek one. SIR is out of stock at present, guess I'll have to wait for awhile.

to quote my father (Royal Engineers, circa 1950's)
"the correct recoil pad for the .303 rifle is the shoulder, laddie
the rifle will tell you when you're not holding it correctly, it may have a tendency to be a bit too direct"

Canadian tire has cheap rubber slip on ones...I used one a while back when I was borrowing a friends #5 jungle Carbine. :D

"Cheap" doesn't cut it with recoil pads. If you are going to buy one then buy the best. "Limb Saver" has recoil pads...slip on...in three sizes. I bought a medium and it fits my No.4 Mk.1 perfectly....and...IT WORKS! They are the top of the line. I believe mine cost me $29.99 but is well worth the price. Dave

Here's another option that works better for milsurp Enfields, than a recoil pad.

~Angel~ uses an add-on Lee-Enfield No.4 muzzle brake. It simply pulls over the muzzle and straps on the bayonet lug. You hand tighten the screw and you're good to go. She uses them on her No.4(T)'s and finds a recoil reduction of at least 50%. She's able to shoot for hours without tiring and makes a day out more enjoyable, although I suppose technically it's cheating as compared to shooting them the way they were issued. :D

Put WTB ads on various milsurp boards and keep your eye on eBay for them...

Get a pad or a muzzle break! Only suckers do what hurts, why should it hurt if it dosn't need to. If you don't need one great but if it hurts then fix it!
