LOL, ok. My point was more that the damn things cost squiddly to manufacture and they rape us on the price. I don't know who's getting rich, but surely the costs of importation aren't that high or they could't sell a bazillion SKS for less than 200$. Price em down a bit and you'll sell 10 times as many.

Generally if a gun is made specially for a small market it is made in small numbers and therefore there is little economy of scale in production. Regardless of your personal thoughts, the Canadian market is very small. Having a manufacturer ramp up production of special magazines, a special semi auto varient with a special length barrel makes it cost more than the one their army opts for in the thousands. The price is the price, if it is too high you can always wait for the Norinco knock off.

Norinco

Since you mentioned it. Takes either pistol mag or helical mag.

Yes, but they aren't just making it for us or they wouldn't be making it. Canada would be what they consider incidental profit. I'm not bashing you, or anyone who goes to the trouble of jumping through the hoops to import these wonderfull items, but some of them, gee, you pay a high price for what you get. I wish there where a few afforadable alternatives.

If it can feed with CZ mags that would save a bit at least, and we wouldn't be stuck with a 5 round pistol. They shouldn't need a special length barrel, just sell it restricted and any one who wants can have a permenant extension made. Just keep the cost down so my wife dosen't start screaming to have my guts for garters when I buy one!;)

High priced guns get on most gun owner's nerves. We paid the big price when things started coming in and the concept was novel. "Wow! A model of a real SMG!" Not sure many would keep buying expensive units. That is why the VZ-58 has been so popular. Only an opinion, though.

It would have to be that cheap and still shoot straight before I chose it over a B&T TP9.
+1.

For $2000, who would chose some unknown Slovak gun over a proven design from HK or B&T? How can you even be sure that it's not a jamomatic piece of crap?

If it was $500, say, I'd choose it. The Slovaks are doing their best to be self-reliant. When they could have Skorpions, you think they would settle for less in terms of reliability?

There are quite a few good weapon designers over there (lots of demand for product I guess), It would probably be a safe bet. For less than a grand I'd probably hit it if it used pistol mags and could be kitted out with a fixed stock as well as folding and a good reflex sight mount.

I talked to a guy from the slovak ERT/SWAT team who tested the LAUGO prototype and wrote a report on it for the slovak ministry of interior. He said it was very good and reliable firearm. I know the guy personaly and I trust his judgment.
