Hi guys, few months ago I found a really nice complete and all match # mauser Kar98A barreled action. Its in VG condition. Bore have strong riflings and its slightly frosted I would rate it good shootable bore. Stamped DANZIG 1918-1920 on the receiver.

There is no rush on the bolt, what you see on the silver bolt parts is just spotted, a light polish will remore the spots...

Now I needed to find a stock for it. Its really rare !!! I finally found one but I need to refinish it. I know, worth more when its in original condition but the finish is worn and someone messed with it some time ago at the point that I will have to fix a couples of things especially on the handguards.
A picture worth a thousand words so here is the stock...

I don't want the stock look like a new one but I want it to look as good as the action...

So here are the problems :

1- I need to find another bayonet lug with the taper pin. Dunno if I can pick one from another model/year ???

2- I need to build brand new 2 X front handguards.

3- Need the *end cap / cup cover* for the rear sight handguard. Maybe I will build one from scratch.

4- I need to find the screw for the rear barrel band.

Well, this is my goal !!!

Man, the stuff you see ten years too late.

My brother bought a rusted hulk of a K98A from a skanky-lookin' biker guy in Edson back in the late '90's. No bolt, a "generous patina" of decay, filth, and rust, but good wood. The poor old thing was beyond restoration.

c. 2001, I sold the stock to a kid in Belfast, Ireland to replace the bubba'd stock on the one he had. His had come off a u-boat at the end of "der Krieg", and someone had shortened the wood up some to make it handier. The remainder went to Mr. Vaughn of Spruce Grove Gun Club fame, God bless him.

Had we held onto that hulk, you and I could have done a deal. Timing really is everything.

What are you trying to do ? repair that one or make a new one? or what?
(then stripping off the buttstock...)

The fronts handguard are too short...
Someone cut them at some time...

The color match will be much easier if the buttstock is stripped...
And the sight handguard is already stripped, so...

Try VZ24 parts for these ;)
