I have a twicked up Remington 870 shotgun, all work done by TacOrd.
Barrel length is 22" and there is Wilson Combat ghostring as a sight.
What kind of accuracy can I expect with slugs out of 50-100m

Thanks

Thanks for response.
What would be a average shotgun range for accurat shot?
Is 100m consider a long stretch?

Thanks

That depends on your skill level and with the ammo you choose for your gun. With a smooth bore gun I would not assume you could exceed 100 by very much and stay on the vitals of a big game animal. You best bet is to purchase a selection of slugs and try to prove me wrong.

It is likely more a function of the shooter than the ammunition. Get some deer-sized targets and try to nail them in the vitals. Rifled slugs get blown around a LOT by the wind. Try on a windy day to see how bad.

Using Winchester Super-X 2-3/4" slugs, I can get 1.5"-2" groups at 50 yards out of my Remington 870 with a 20" rifle sighted barrel and modified choke tube installed. With the improved cylinder choke, groups average about 2.5"-3".

Forgive my ignorance, but are we talking rifled barrels here or fosters out of smooth bore?

I can barely hit the paper at 100 yards with fosters out of my 28" smooth bore 870 + Mod chock + bead sight. Are MOA's of 2-3 at 100 yards possible, out of a smooth bore?

I get 2-3 inch group at 100yard, 3-4 at 150yard out of a smoothbore with winchester rifled slug. Never really tried at 200yard but i think the drop will be bad.

With a rifled barrel i get worst result even with XP3 ammo !?!?!... so i keep the smoothbore even for deer.

Test a lot of different ammo, there is a huge difference, not always on price. I get better accuracy out of a 4$ box than a 18$ box.

X2

I can hit a 4 liter milk jug at 75 yards 9 out 10 times. To me thats reasonable, the slugs starts to fall soon after that.

You want accuracy, buy a rifled barrel and an action for a mountable scope. Though you can mount a scope with the side mount using the action pins, a top mount will preform much better. You would be best to buy a Winchester 1300 rifled barrel shotgun (Dearslayer) and a good quality scope for the cost and have two shotguns.

What Arcaner said X3

I decided a couple of years ago just to make my own slugs. They are very expensive if you buy enough to practice with; there is no such thing as $4.00 boxes anymore where I live. You can buy moulds fairly cheaply all things considered and once you purchase on you can make slugs for the rest of your life. 18 grains of 700X and a lyman slug in a 1 1.4 oz wad works great in everything (8 different smooth bores) I have tried it in and it is low recoil.
