How did you get hit with spent hulls, I’m a southpaw and I have yet to get a shell or casing in the face from an 870 or anything for that matter. Sometimes a bit of spent gasses but that only with semi autos.
 
Encore/Prohunter with a 12ga or 20ga rifled slug barrel.
The 12ga is what I will be shooting this year, also going to try my hand at reloading some slugs so I can get some more trigger time without it costing too much.

The T/C Encore/Prohunter MuzzleLoader Barrel is darn accurate also

when I was shooting uphill from the bottom of a large ravine. Smacked in the face twice. Might have something to do wit the position I was in but still a bit distracting.
 
It looks like the Savage 220 is the way to go.
Seen some Videos on the YouTube and taking what they are saying with a grain of salt it will do what I want.
Now to find one and the funds to make it happen. I am a big fan of Bushnell scopes so should I say the hunt is on..

I've got a mossberg ssi-1. It's a switch barrel rig. It's pretty accurate with rem accutips. Has a nice feel to it. Solid gun. I've got it in the ee with its .270 win barrel included.

Interesting, I’ll have to see if it does the same with me sometime. I’ve never had it happen, I don’t own any LH long guns and haven’t had it happen yet.

It only happened a couple times. I think it was probably because I didn’t cycle the action with enough authority and the hull just sort of fell out. I was in an awkward position so that probably contributed to the whole situation. I do like my 870 for pest control around the farm though. The 14” barrel I got years ago makes it easy to pack around. Much better than the 24” on the Ithaca!
 
My personal preference is a Winchester SX3 deer gun. I'm sub MOA at 100 yards with 2 3/4 accutips.

We have a few 20 ga users in our camp - IMO, if the shot isn't in the boiler room the deer isn't dying anytime soon. This is just my opinion based on my experience. There is NO room for error with these 20 ga sabots in my opinion. One example my sister shot a doe twice at 100 yards with 2 3/4 inch accurtip. First shot was off the mark by 2 inchs and hit the shoulder. Second shot through the boiler room. Double lung. Deer died about 30 yards away. When skinning we discovered the shoulder shot didn't even go through the shoulder blade. If shot 2 didn't connect than it was a wounded deer - not fatal.

That is interesting maybe the 12 is the way to go.

Both my brother and I had 20ga Savage bolt guns and killed quite a few deer with them but have gone back to 12ga after some marginal performance from the 20ga sabots.
Nothing brings them down like a 12ga slug.
 
Looking to buy the 212 with the Accufit stock. Such a hassle here, hard to find. Nice to see you guys are happy with these howitzers.

Makes sense.

Oh, the 14” barrel is the sweet spot. The 20” is a close second in my books but I love the 14” for an all around useful length on a shotgun. It’s especially hard to beat if it has removable chokes.
 
My friend has a 220 and loves it. I missed a deer with it so I hate it with passion.....

I had an A bolt 12ga but sold it. It was a very nice gun. I sold it to buy the next gun, which makes more sense.

I have a savage 10 ML II and can shoot almost twice as far as the slug guns, and shoot much more accurately. Not to mention that it has better stopping power. 300gr slug at 2300 fps.

I also have a Browning Auto 5 with an aftermarket Hastins rifled barrel. It shoots slugs just as accurately as any bolt gun. I have shot cloverleaf groups with it at 75 yards and 3" groups at 100. It was so surprisingly accurate that I looked into making slugs. I bought a Lyman 525 mold and after a few trials I have a very accurate slug. Its 525 grains screaming at around 1600fps accurately to over 100 yards. 0-100 it shoots quite flat - for a 525 grain flat nose pellet

Consider the 212 only for the reason of casting this Lyman 525 slug. They are easy to make once you find a load and are MUCH cheaper than factory slugs. The recoil isn't that bad and rolling a propane tank around from 50 to 150 yards with the slugs makes for great practice and great fun.

I have been casting slugs for over 10 years and shooting them in a few different shotguns.
The reason I am looking at a dedicated gun is for better accuracy and just because....
