Slug question

I have a 590A1 and was wondering what kind of slugs to try. I have read that saboted slugs are not to be shot unless the barrel is rifled. Is this correct?

No, accuracy is better if rifled is all, the cup will spin in the rifled barrel and we all know how accuracy is improved with rifling.

If you shoot sabots out of a smoothbore barrel the accuracy will be poorer because of the lack of spin that Levi pointed out. I have only tested them to about 15m (bear defence range for me) and the accuracy with a couple of different types was the same as the standard Foster slugs.

There will be a distance where accuracy will suffer a lot, I just haven't had a chance to test it out yet.....for several months now. Soon to be remedied I hope.
