slug recoil VS shot recoil

I did the exact same thing with my 88. Took 10 2 3/4 slugs to the rifle range, shot 3 of them, and left terrified and bruised. Shooting trap with it is no problem, go box after box in the afternoon and it's just fine. It's a 1 1/8oz of shot for target loads compared to the 1 1/4oz slug. I would take an uneducated guess that it's a powder difference.

Besides the 50 grain payload difference this is correct. I take it you were shooting Federal slugs, 2 3/4" have an MV of 1520 fps IIRC which makes a huge difference in felt recoil. launching a 547 gr. slug out of anything that light at that velocity is going to create a hell of alot of recoil.
