Here is a newbie question for everyone,

I own a Browning BPS Micro 20g shotgun to shoot skeet with. But I've always wondered what it would be like to shoot a 20g slug out of it. But I could never find any for sale, until yesterday.

I was getting all excited until I remembered that the shotgun has to have choke tubes screwed in. I was just wondering if it is even possible to shoot a slug with a choke on? Thanks!

Yup, no problems with that as long as its not full or tighter, it wont damage a newer gun to fire through a full choke but it will deform the slug a little bit and make it not as accurate.

I've fired Foster style slugs through pump, semi, sxs, o/u and single shot shotguns in all kinds of choke configurations. Although some are more accurate, I've never had a problem. A cylinder or improved cylinder choke seems to work the best from my experiences. But if you have screw in chokes, ensure you have one in before firing...enjoy!

foster slugs only!!!! no sabots out of any choke unless the box says its ok. They are too rigid and do not pass through well, think of taking Kaopectate for two weeks streight and see how that goes through.

Foster, or "rifled" slugs have the grooves in the side to allow compression as the slug passes through the constriction of a choke. I've never had problems putting slugs through full chokes but anything tighter is not a good idea. Try different choke tubes and have fun! Theres nothing like leaving a gaping hole in your target!

The only problem with sabots through a smooth bores is that they they are designed for a rifled bore and are a waste of money. The kaopectate analogy does not fit. They are not rigid. They are in a plastic cup. Passing through easy or well is not the issue. A slug too small for bore that passes easily through a smooth bore may end up just as a big BLOOP!

To answer the OP. Your BPS probably came with IC, Mod. and full chokes. All are safe for slugs. One may work better than the others. Nothing written in stone, as to which will work better. Make sure there is a tube in place because firing without may ruin the threads.
