Slugs in a full choke

Going moose hunt next week and I want to carry my 36" barrel, single shot 12 gauge because I can use it for ducks or geese also. I'll be using Winchester, 1 ounce, 2 3/4" slugs. I'm trying to get a straight answer on this. The research I have done, I get both answers, yes you can shoot them and no you can't, you'll destroy your gun.

What the heck is it? Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks...Bill

Yah I would like an opinion/answer too. I think that you can use rifled slugs because the rifling will compress the slug in a full choke. However I am not sure about other slugs like the lee 1 oz slug I cast

Yes you can use rifled (Foster Style) slugs in a full choke, they are hollow and will compress going through a choked gun. Years ago the most common choke was full and everybody used slugs. I would not recommend sabots or any solid slug in a full choke.

yes you can shoot them from your full choke . thy are ment to fit thru a full the fins will crush and fill the barrel as thy go thru . no problem DUTCH

I shoot Foster slugs (Winchester Super-X, Federal PowerShok) out of my Browning BPS and ancient Remington 870 full choke guns every so often. Never been a problem, though accuracy out of either leaves much to be desired. I haven't tried sabot slugs but have seen a few shotguns by Mossberg/Remington with rifled barrels to get the most out of slugging lead or copper.

Good to know....I remember a couple buddies disagreeing with me on whether or not slugs could go through a full...

I guess we were both right since I didn't know about the limitations on sabots or cast....though I never shoot those anyways

Well I tried 3, 12 gauge shotguns today at about 50 yards. #1...36" barrel, full choke single shot...about 14" below point of aim. #2...30" barrel, full choke single shot...same thing, about 12"-14" low. #3...20" barrel, IC/M double barrel...about 12"-14" high. All Winchester Super X, 2 3/4", 1 ounce slugs. Think I'll stick to rifles for big game.

rifled shotgun barrel is a must, in my opinion, for shooting slugs out of shotguns.
Both my Mossbergs 930, and 535, in 12 gauge, and the Remington 870 20 gauge have rifled barrels.
I shoot lyman slugmaster's out of all of them. Very accurate out to 100 yards. I have not tried farther. I use them for bear.
