I have a newer browning bps 12ga smooth bore with a backbored barrel. Is it ok to shoot rifled slugs. Checked the manual and doesnt mention anything. Canadian tire told my friend its a no no.

On my Mossberg 935 which is backbored the manual says no slugs unless a specific slug barrel is used. The manual mentions the backboring as the reason.

As far as I know the Mossbergs are bored out larger than the brownings,I have never measured, I have fired slugs through a number of invector plus Browning with no problems at all.

You can bet your bottom dollar that if it would cause a problem browning would know and warn against it.

thanks guys. ive shot slugs through mine with no apparent problems. Hopefully some more bps owners chime in.

I think it may be more of an accuracy issue for you.
I'm pretty sure Mossbergs are bored to 10 guage diameter.

I'll bet it's on the browning site. Otherwise call the 1-800#

BPS Manual pg17 wrote:
INVECTOR-PLUS™
All current BPS 12 and 20 gauge shotguns, except the Deer gun, have
back-bored barrels and are threaded to accept Invector-Plus™ choke
tubes only. The word INVECTOR-PLUS denotes that the barrel is
threaded. The degree of choke in the tube is indicated twice on each
choke tube: inscribed on the side of the tube, and indicated with a
“notch” code on the top rim of the tube. All Invector-Plus choke tubes
are made with tempered steel and are fully compatible with all
FACTORY AMMUNITION (loaded in compliance with SAAMI
specifications) including magnum lead and steel shot loads and rifled
slug loads. Our universal tube wrench is used to remove and install
these tubes.

Ok i guess ididnt miss it. Pg 17 in my manual just mentions use of all saami compliant feild loads. im just gonna call them. Thanks again.
