Slugs in O/U?

You can put slugs through anything as long as the choke isn't super tight like turkey/extra full. A maverick 88 is neither a o/u or sxs just fyi...

I use a Ruger Redlable for my goose hunting (modified choke ) and always carry slugs with me. I do shoot slugs through it on a regular basis it's good to know where they hit.

Is it safe/normal to use slugs in an over/under

Perfectly safe and normal. Watch your chokes (like any shotgun slug usage). Check POI for both barrels (especially with a lower quality double gun). Test your ammo and don't be surprised if there are vast differences between available brands - find the one your gun likes. After that have at and have fun.

Just finished carrying my browning cynergy during an ontario controlled hunt and it worked great.

Shotgun writer (and renowned expert) Don Zutz tested several o/u's with foster type slugs. He found they all shoot to different places with each barrel. (no surprise) He did conclude that the lower barrel was the most consistent and accurate of the two barrels. He decided this was because the bottom barrel was nestled deeper in the receiver. With this in mind I would use my bottom barrel for my first shot and use the top for any follow up. Like Pounder said it is critical to know where each barrel shoots and compensate and practice.

I thought a Maverick 88 was a pump?

Again,

I have both the pump Maverick 88 and the O/U Maverick sorry for referring to the O/U as an 88 lol

Looks like I'm stuck with a Silver Reserve 2 now so that will be my dedicated skeet gun and I'm gonna take the Maverick out in the bush more.

Now I'm looking forward to putting some 00 buck and slugs through it!

i have an older browning citori over under that someone blew the barrel on and it was cut down by several inches when i got it. it shoots slugs accurately in a vertical pattern .it has clip on sights. recoil is stout but a great slug gun and unusual compared to other slug guns.
