ive heard that firing a rifled slug through an improved cylinder choke improves its accuracy? is this true??

also what would happen if one was to fire a slug through an even tighter choke such as modified or even full or extra full? would this be safe or would it KA-BOOM the barrel?????

I shoot slugs through my modified choked 870 barrel. I don't have anything to compare to it accuracy wise, but it seems accurate enough and my barrel hasn't blown up yet.

I shoot rifled slugs from my Dominion Arms Grizzly and I believe the stock choke is Modified. (I think?) Accuracy is very good to 25 yards. At 50 yards it's still "okay" (half the shots still on 8.5x11" paper). So I think the barrel, choke, and slug are all still cooperating accurately and I'm the weak link. Those are the ranges I practice at and I don't have another choke to compare it to.

Nothing is written in stone. Some rifled slugs do better with less choke restriction and some do better with tighter chokes. Rifled slugs are designed to work through a variety of bore dimension within a gauge. Although I have never tried xtra full or super full, I have shot slugs through a variety of different bores and tried chokes from cylinder to full. For me cylinder has never preformed well and modified seems to be consitently one of the best.
