As per the title, are slugs in an O/U even a good idea? I do ambush the occasional Whitey while busting thru the Ruffie thickets here and there in the Okanagan. If you are under 30yds would you? Browning 20ga CXS and I still tend to hunt with IC's.....

Lead slugs can be shot through any choke. As Thu are soft lead with a hollow base thy swell to fill the bore.you just have to find out what choke shoots true in your gun

The problem with SxS or O/U is that the barrels are normally not regulated like a double rifle ... :-(
... meaning, in most cases those two barrels shoot to two different points of aims ...

You can test both barrels with slugs and see how/where they shoot ...

If they are too far off .... you can still make one barrel your slug barrel ... and your O/U becomes a slug single shot ...

I normally make one barrel my "slug" barrel for reaching out ... and the other becomes a buckshot barrel for the closer shots ....

Exactly, I would shoot slugs through both barrels and see which one is the most accurate at the max distance you pick. Then shoot and pattern the other barrel for birdshot.

Slugs through a fixed IC or mod are not a problem in my experience, I tested it out quite a bit with my gun. Staying away from brenneke's is a wise choice though. I've seen a gun where they lightly engraved rifling into a mod choke.
