SM-2 Cartidges, New Short and Super Short Mags!

A few years back John Noveske designed and built the 450 Noveske on the 300WSM case.
He put iot into a little carbine forr dangerous game use.
I saw so,me pics of the recoil and it was indeed wicked, but very accurate.

I thought I liked the 6.5WSM , but the 6.5SAUM, is a bit more effificient.
The 6.5WSSM however, is just too much fun!!

At one time I was thinking of doing a 35WSM, but that was before the 325.
It's all good, wildcatting is akin to hotrodding cars, all fun.
As far as Hodgon goes, some of our ammo got left open on the sand the other day at he oputpost, and was VERY hot when it went into the rifles, no sweat!
Varget and 30 cal bullets in tight chambers.

Yeah Varget withstands temp variations very well indeed...
You must be getting some wicked mirage off that water Cat... How far is that target??

OK, (minor hijack), but wouldn't there be LESS mirage off the water given it would be cooler than the air?

Please explain??

I have shot over water quite a bit and mirage is very common and can be worse than off of the ground... hot moist air over cool water... do the math.;)

Charlie Sisk and Richard Mann have teamed up to create a whole new line of wildcats using the .325WSM case and the .243WSSM case.

The .416 SM2 outperforms the .404 Jeffery... it launches a 325gr bullet at 2600fps, 370gr @ 2425 and a 400gr @ 2380fps....
Howabout that, a Dangerous Game cartridge capable of magnum performance in a Short Action rifle...:)
The new SM2 cartridges include .375, 9.3, .416 and 458 calibers!
According to Charlie the new SM2 cartridges can all be chambered in short-action rifles with a shorter bolt throw, over-all lengrh and lighter weight. All are available from Sisk rifles and come with pressure-tested handloading data.
Redding now offers dies for some of the new cartridges!:)

They have also developed SM2 rounds in .30, 8mm, .338 and .35 caliber, and these Super shorts are using the .243 WSSM as the parent case.

Here is a link to some early chatting between Charlie and Richard on another forum. http://64.29.201.168/forum/index.php?showtopic=33

YAWN......

Funny that just last year Charlie Sisk and John Barsness wildcatted the 9.3 BS (Barsness Sisk) on the 350 Rem Mag case, and why? Because Charlie didn't like the short mag cases and trying to make them feed.

Ironically now just a year later he is building Dangerous game rifles on these case designs?

So let me see.... one less round in the chamber, higher pressures than the larger DG cartridges in the same class, and harder to make feed........

Sign me up, just what I want when a Cape is charging me.... a jammed rifle, a blown primer, or diminished mag capacity!

Talk about beating a dead horse... make that a beaten and broken dead horse's skeleton that died of a good beating....

I think I'll neck the 270 WSM up to 30 Cal and push the shoulder back 0.0001" but seat the bullet out a few thou further... and name it in your honour.... The 300 BIG RED SHORT FAT ULTRA NIAVE BANDWAGON JUMPING SUPER EFFICIENT MORE ACCURATE SUPER MAGNUM.....the 300 BRSFUNBJSEMASM for short (grin).

Should be a great seller with such a catchy handle....

O.K. if you feel you must have the smallest round/action available for deer/moose, whatever fine. Dangerous game!! I'd like to see the look on your African PHs face when you pull out your super short actioned dangerous game rifle.:)

Oh yeah Ackley and are we to surmise from this brilliantly sarcastic post that you are a better gunsmith than Charlie Sisk or a more accomplished hunter than Richard Mann?;)

Your assumptions of blown primers, high pressures, and jammed rifles are just simple minded caterwauling based on nothing but hyperbole.

Does it stick in your craw that the WSM's are hugely successful... and that many of the serious wildcatters are using them as platforms for new cartridges.

I suppose that I could make up a ridiculously childish name for a wildcat in your honor.. but you already have a very efficient wildcat in your user name now don't you! Ironic and hypocritical all at the same time... :p

I find the content of your post boring... and the sarcasm and personal attack childish.

I won't denigrate the forum with a "Yawn" that is just retarted.:(

I LOST a primer on my first outing with a 6.5WSM!
Fired, opened up the action, and..... NO PRIMER!!!

Too tight a neck and Barnes bullets will do it evrery time!!:D
Turned the super thick WSM necks down, backed off the 130 X's a tad, and wentr sub MOA at 1K nno sweat.
Any way, nope, no mirage to speak of here.
That tsarget is 700 yards, and uphill, but this one is the 1K target!:)

You can clearly see it at the base of the black cliff.
The cliff is a tarsand bank, BTW....

In order for this thread to get further out of hand.......Cat, I've gotta ask, how long does it take to paddle your canoe over there to change the target?
Did you mount a 502 cu.in. Chevy in it for record change times?

Neat idea when you have a hard time finding a long flat range area.
We have too many tree huggin white water rafters riding the waves to get away with it down south.

This is the official " Outpost of the Empire Range Vehicle"!:D
boatthing.jpg

1,000lbs. dry. can make skinny water no sweat, cheap on fuel (120 Sportjet)
and a full canopy for nasty weather.
It will make 38MPH flat out, but I cruise it at about 32mph.

It is much easier to get off the beach than the big fellas, as well!:)
BTW, I ranged the target tonight , used the Geovids we are raffling to test them out.
The far target is more llike 1182 yards!

Thanks BR, I like it a lot!
I was never big on quads for hunting in this country, mainly because everybody seems to have one!

I use quads on my kid brother's trapline same as the snowmobiles, a piece of equipment to haul stuff, I don't use them for play like I do the boat!:D
You can relax, cut the motet, and look ffor game.
I was out late last night, got home at about 23:00 I think, it was excellent!
Saw a bunch of deer, ducks, beavers, etc.
You can drift right up to deer, and they will stare at you till you make some noise, and even then will not always move off.
The Snider and the 6.5WSSM are gonna get a workout this year again!!
