Has anyone used a small base die to relaod for bolt action rifle? I am positive it will work.

My question is will it affect accuracy? It is for a new .308 cal. bolt action rifle.

Thanks...

As to accuracy, it shouldn't have a marked effect one way or another firstly because the degree to which the cases expand to fill the chamber will still be uniform and consistency is what creates accuracy. Secondly there are many other variables more important. Serious service rifle shooters don't appear to be concerned about the ill effects, if any, of using small base dies.

Sure it will work, but why would you want to use it? Small base dies are designed to assure functioning of the reloaded round in semi-auto/self-loading rifles, i.e., rifles that have less camming power than a bolt gun. In the process, the brass is worked a little more than full length resizing with standard dies, i.e., those you'd use for reloading your standard bolt gun. I've found that over time, the brass used with the Sm. Base dies does not last as long as brass for my bolt guns, simply because the latter isn't worked as much. In a lot of cases, you can even get away with using standard dies for a lot of semi-autos, pumps, etc... making the sm. base die unnecessary.

I am picking up a 308 bolt gun. I have the small base die that I am relaoding for a semi-auto. It is not a case I am buying a small base die for a bolt gun.

Anyway I will give it a try if I don't get sub MOA I will pick up a FL die set.

Thanks...
